Nice percussion goin' on. You definitely have a distint vocal style that fits your music well.

I like the subtlety of this mix. I think the hard work has paid off. It sounds like a cohesive whole and nothing jumps out too much.

I have to ask about the trumpet solo ... is this a real trumpet, or just a "mouth trumpet" so to speak? Interesting sounding either way...

I like the groove to this and the writing! :)

Great mouth horn! Classy stuff, real clean sounding! Interesting vocal stylings. Overall good arrangement!

Another cool one dobro. This is the first I'm hearing from you with more than guitar. I like what you've done with the percussion, what do you need me for? ;) That guitar sound is just plain cool. I think the mix sounds great, love those horn-type sounds. Great job! :D

Dobro.. This is great....

Those synthetic sounding drum tracks behind your acoustic is your trademark... I love it.!

Songwriting is great... Vocal sound, and performance is stellar..

I can't find anything I don't like.....

Oh, is that a bass solo Im hearing here and there... and is it slightly out of tune???

Other than that.. great!

Yeah, I think you might be right. Sigh... Intonation problems from playing high up the neck on a less than wonderful bass, or just less than wonderful bass playing. I thought somebody might notice it... But how does the vocal sit in the mix? I tried something different with it.

First of all Dobro, I would focus on the drum track.
The kick needs a bit more umph, and the snare some less crack (as do some of the other musicians involved).

On a more serious note, there are 2 components, the vocal and the guitar. In this mix they both occupy the same space. In other words, the guitar does not support the vocal. Bring the guitar down a bit, and give it some more space, perhaps by a very small pinch of delayed reverb, panned. If possible with the tools you have got, this would move the guitar to the rear and sides, while making your vocal come through the center.
Finally - the song does not have an end - it just stops.

All I can suggest, it maybe track the bass in 2 parts... Tune it so the high part is in tune.... and then tune it so the bottom part is in tune... perform 2 perfmances..... And then Cut the High-in-tune part in when it comes up, and then go back to the low-in-tune-part during the lower bass parts....

Very simple Editing..

(Hope that makes sense...).. It's a good way to make a badly intonated instrument work, besides having the intonation set-up by a tech...

Or you could try putting a slight amount of Chorus on the bass, so that it is throughout the track, rather than your fingers bending the strings the wrong way and *making* the chorus for you in the wrong spots..

(Hope that makes sense too) :D

I really like how the vocal sits in the Mix..... Nothing about it bothers me Dobro..

(Why do I hear a bit of Lennon in there)?????? Are you a fan...

It's not like your a "karaoke Lennon", or some dude trying to sound like him.... You sound like yourself, but I do hear some sort of lennon-esque quality to your vocal, that I really like.

Vox - what I did was retrack the bass tonight, and tune the thing so that the high notes were in tune. I'll listen tomorrow and decide if it worked. Thanks for being honest. It's a bullshit problem to have, but I still allow myself to fool myself about stuff I should notice and deal with.

Also, I did track the bass solo in two parts, plus there's the main bass part - that was the bitch and prick of it - how do you mix three bass parts and get away with it? I had to apply flagrant amounts of EQ to each of the solo basses to even *start* to get them to sound different, not to mention the panning. The problem with the panning is that the further out the basses go, the less they get heard. Damn.

Sjoko - hey, thanks for the ideas. As for the ending - it's *supposed* to end like that. LOL As for the rest, I'll think about it. What I've been doing with the guitar is double miking it to two channels and then splitting the two channels in the mix. The less busy the mix, the more the separation, the more busy the mix, the less the separation. It works well for less busy mixes. :D I'll try the delayed reverb and see if it gets the guitar out of the way of the vocal - the biggest problem for me now is the guitar. Cheers.

Cool vibe, has a real acoustic Lou Reed feel to it.
I like the guitar sound, very nice.

Mouth trumpet was a nice touch!

I thought the melody and writing were very good, nice changes.

Very enjoyable listen,thanks.

I liked it too. your stuff kinda reminds me of Arlo Guthrie stuff...in an unrelated type way. I think because of your voice too.. The 'mouth' trumpet... You HAD to speed that up in cooledit somehow....eh?

the guitar sound IS very good.

oh...no hiss:D :D

and....how serious do you get?? :D :D :D

Dead serious. That's why the light touch.

Not speeded up, either. That's just the way I do it. Women have been known to swoon when they see these lips at work.

nice lil tune. Not my cup of tea but the girls here like it. Daughter was dancing some kinda calypso-ballet thing while I was heating the voice coils up on the monitors. Its a little guitar thick during some of the singing, but the singing comes thru. You almost got a double bass resonance on the bass that I like. Guitar is a little more bottom resonate than in "Wild". The parts with the horn sound was a nice touch.

:p <----and the tongue is like this.....or

 <---- the position is this!!

swoon...ha!! I love it. a serious swooning guy. All the right attributes...

Toki - there's a double bass resonance, because the bass solo has two basses playing. Also, if the kid was dancing, that's great. Success. :)
