This should be an easy yes/no question (unless I've really got my head up my arse).

I have recorded many songs in Sonar 2.2/3.0 with "Apply Dither" enabled in the Audio > Advanced settings. I wasn't aware of this setting.

I want to only dither during mastering which I've not done yet.

Can I uncheck (disable) the "Apply Dither" setting and know that no dithering has been applied to my already recorded tracks?

Essentially, I don't know *when* the dither is applied. I can't find in the manual if the dithering is applied during playback or if tracks recorded with dithering enabled actually contain dithering on disk.

Thanks for any help you can give!

Yes, turn it off it's ugly.

The dither is only applied when you export the audio tracks out of Sonar.

Ciao,

Thanks Qwerty.

Are you suggesting the Sonar dithering algorithm is crap?

Thanks for the help.

Nope - I'm telling you it's crap!

FWIW - Ron Kuper, CTO over at Cakewalk has said as much in their online forums. Pop over there and do a search for 'dither + Ron'...
