anyone know of a COMPUTER mic that has no(or little) distortion, that will let me record vocals, and guitar?

I've done some copmuter mic recording before. The best advice I can give is to stay back from the mic, because they do distort easliy. Maybe someone here knows of a COMPUTER mic that will do what you want.

Hey pizzahead,

Dont know what you call a computer mic....but I think you would have more luck with one of those 9.99 WalMart mics with the ball pop screen on it....I use one for voice chat and it does ok....you will have to be more careful than with a real mic with vocals and guitar, but it could work.....

Man, just save yourself the frustration and get something decent. I forget who it is (SlackMaster2k?), but somebody on this BBS has a pretty applicable catch phrase for this situation. "Buy cheap, buy twice." I'd basically agree with that with a few exceptions of course for great deals. But AFAIK, there are no great deals in "computer mics" for serious recording. So do yourself a favor and get a Shure SM57 ($50 used) and some kind of mic preamp like an M-Audio DMP2 ($80 at Mars Music if you're lucky) or even (gasp) an ART Tube MP ($60 used). You will then have a decent little signal chain and something that will be useful even if you end up buying more equipment down the road.

Good Luck!

a computer mic with little or no distortion? isn't that what makes them computer mics?:D
