Hello all. I'm hoping someone here will be able to give me some advice. I would like to record on cd all of the songs I used to sing to my daughter at bedtime (she is not living with me at the moment). A friend I know had a digital recorder that he was going to let me use, but he is out of town now. Her birthday is coming up soon, so I'd like to be able to get this done this week. I was hoping that I'd be able to rent the equipment, but haven't had any luck thus far finding anyone who rents recorders. Does anyone know what the price range is for a one time session at a recording studio? Or would they laugh at me and throw me out? Do they even rent these things? Am I dumb to try to get it on cd, should I just do this on tape? If I did it on tape now, would it be hard to convert to cd later?

I don't need anything fancy here...no mixing or music added. I'm going for the au-natural because that's what she's used to hearing...my imperfect voice making little mistakes but just singing on through. I would rather do this at home with rented equipment because I'd be more comfortable and probably sound more natural. Any advice given would be greatly appreciated.

Rock on!
Amy

Do you have a computer at home that you can hook a microphone up to? If so, that's probably the best/easiest way to go. If you don't have a cd burner, you could send the files to someone who does, and they could copy them for you.

that's a great birthday idea!

Yeah; it should be that simple. You don't really want to go to the expense of renting equipment. Going to a studio could prove very expensive.

What you should do is either; hunt your friend down (see if you can get into his house (legally) to borrow the equipment or if you've got it in you pretend to be a potential client. Go to a store or a studio and ask to demo some of their gear (you have to make the rest up).

If it doesn't seem feasable, record it onto tape for the time being (ie for the birthday (nice gift by the way)); when your friend gets back re-record it onto CD. You really don't want a tape in the long term and I don't personally know how you would transfer the tape recording to CD easily (or cheaply for that matter).

Better yet just go to the store and buy a cd recordable use it and take it back, mars will do it no questions asked.;)

If you buy one of those CD recordables from Mars, it will cost you about $300.00 plus tax at the cheapest.

Philips CDR770 CD Recorder $299.98
TDK DA-3826 Audio CD Recorder $299.99

Walmart may have them too; may be worth it to check prices there.

Very good Birthday present. Good luck!
