Are you sick to death with the bad service you have been getting from stores ?

Are the sales people pests, ROBOTS, who dont listen properly been getting you down?

have you to been promised stock that just doent show then been offered a lame excuse or something else in exchange that you didnt want to start with.

Or do these wonderfull stores just not post to your area

Well this is probably one of many horror stories we all know and i am sure you all have one, post them here lets us all know about who and where, and maybe you can leave the main names out but give us all a big hint who they are for legal reasons of course then together we can all avoid dealing with these fools once and for all.

My only horror stories are about car dealers. :(

But this kinda stuff is why I feel so lucky about the fact that I'm near one of America's more well-known music stores. Every last one of the employees there is a better guitarist than me, and every last one of them has forgotten more about guitars than I may ever learn. Definitely makes me feel confident when I'm buying from them. :)

Where's the service!

Things I hate about the big chains:

1. Crappy guitar players who insist on cranking the mesa boogie half stack to ten while trying to play the latest System of a Down riff. (Crappy bass players too)

2. Store clerks who know less about their own gear than I do.

3. Those hideous chop fest video showcases for the guitar gods ( I won't mention any names here) played on annoying and horrible sounding television monitors at insane volume levels.

4. Driving a half hour to pick up a piece of gear that isn't in stock, though it was when you called.

Other than that, I love G.C.

I have 2 big ones here..Sam A** and Mar* and the only thing about those two stores that I dont care for they dont have any used stuff!Im cheap gotta find bargins its half the fun! They dont really have a different selection...If one has item A so will the other..As far as recording gear goes we have a good store "Magic Audio" its just hard to get to when they are open..Its a good thing though because if they were open Saturdays,I'de be there indentured servant...LOL

Yo Bad Stores:

I only have a bad taste in my wallet from Musician's Friend who once offered SONY data discs for the MD8 and then mailed TKD discs. And, when I sent them back, they sent them back to me.

Hey, there Musician's Friend: Don't hold your breath until I order something from you -- ANYTHING! IN A THOUSAND YEARS!

I understand that sales is a tough business. Especially in these economic times. However, I am not one of these "I have nothing to do...let me go wank at the local Sam Ash or Guitar Center people." If I'm going to the music store, I'm going to buy something. Why is it when some fucking idiot at GC finally gets around to helping me, he insists on helping 3 other people at the same time? I fucking hate that. I was buying a Roland xp-30 keyboard a few months back, after 45 minutes of the salesman looking in the basement for one, he brings it up, I hand him my credit card and....boom, he starts talking with some customer. It takes the guy another ten fucking minutes. Finally he's like " will that be cash or credit card....I say, you have my credit card already. He's like ....Oh sorry. I say" can I see that credit card for a minute please, he hands it back to...I fucking walk out. Later DICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sam Ash -- the only music store in america where they mug you when you walk in the door...may i help you? may I help you?.....may I help you....?? Enough already.

The mugging occurs at the GC by me more than the Sam Ash. The best story I have is when I was looking into getting a paul reed smith. I asked if I could just try one out (gave the model number and all), and the dude brought it out, and said gimme a holler if you need anything. I thought cool. I then proceded to play on what the dude called "the ferrari of guitars". I knew they were supposed to be qual, but this guitar was so shitty and was mucked up (dents in the fretboard, etc.) by countless numbers of yahoos playing soulless music that I was disgusted. Not to mention, it sounded like shit and the store had the guitar labeled wrong. I called the dude over, and his first question is, "So, how do you plan to pay for it today?". I quietly told him that "I don't usually carry around $1500 with me", and then left the store.

The other time I actually tried to get help (at the same store) was for the Korg D16. I asked if I could bum a pair of headphones to listen to the demo songs that were done on the thing. The asshole at the counter looked at me like I were from Mars, and then proceeded to walk over to the box with me. He said, "what do you need headphones for?" I tried to tell him, "Well, I'm looking to spend a pretty penny on this thing, and I'd like to hear what the thing sounds like. He replied, "This thing plays back at CD quality". It was at that point I told him "Thanks for nothing" and walked out.

Last one, I swear. But this is the best one. The same GC (I've learned my lesson). I bought my first crate half-stack from this place, and I really never had a problem with it (never realized there was a problem), until one day at my buddy's house it blew a fuse. I thought, no prob, I'll replace it. It proceeded to blow two more on switchon. I then brought it in to the place where I worked, and when the main electrical dude cracked it open, he asked me "What the fuck did you do to this thing?". I said "I didn't do anything". I then looked at the guts of it. Traces were blown off the circuit board and replaced with wire! There was so little heat sink compound that the thing basically fried itself. And then when I tried to return what was supposed to be a "brand new when bought" unit, the dumdums at GC had my last name spelled wrong in the records, so it took them a week to recognize the problem. Anyways, I finally got the new unit.

I could actually go on about the trouble I had with old gift certificates, or my friend's guitar woes, but we'll leave it at that. Believe me, after doing business with GC, Sam Ash is a fuckin godsend.

Peace out, and sorry for the ramble,
Mike

don, i'm with you, where is all the used gear going! do you know how hard it is to walk into a shop and find s/h cymbals??? or s/h anything for that matter!!! i guess the profit margian is too small for these guys to trade with second hand gear.....i mean there is some obscure old gear out there, especially effects that just can not be replicated now days, plus they are bargains, i hate walking into music shops and only seeing shiny new gear all over the place...if it ain't dented, i don't want it

H= Hard Cock.

Bu seriously, I've had good experiences with Sam Ash. I went to mars looking for a keyboard, only to be frowned at because I was a teenager. I went to sam ash and they actually helped me for like a half hour. Needless to say i bought my keyboard from there.

You mean you actually listened to or believed anything that someone working retail sales said to you????? Unbelievable. Bet they can't wait to see you coming.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Do your research BEFORE you ever walk into a store.

Open the door and step in quickly.

Point to what you want. (If they don't have exactly what you want, turn around and walk out the door.... DO NOT let them talk you into something "almost as good" or "better".)

If they have it, pull out cash or your plastic and GET OUT.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Obviously I'm not going to just buy something they recomend, I had it narowwed down to a few things. He made some comments about each that I could easily check by playing. Such as "this keyboards sounds are crap" and I played the thing, and they were crap. I really don't see a way to avoid stores altogether and at the same time listen to stuff before buying it. Unless you have a lot of friends with gear.

hey trebles, i just noticed that you are from melbourne, this store wouldn't happen to start with "A" would it?

the problem with service may be that the stores hired the shreders that were hanging around the stores to be clerks. You know, the dudes that are always non-stop noodling on the guitar trying to impress every one that walks through the door. (if you snap your head around real fast you will always catch them looking at you...to see if you are in awe of their shredability). I've never met one that wasn't a prick and didn't consider himself "above" most musicians (SRV and Hendrix are usually considered "beneath" them). If those morons actually get sales jobs....you end up with the kind of service you guys have been talking about. I agree about trying to wait on 2 people....hey...when your waiting on me and someone steps in the store "i'll be right with you"...is all i want to hear come out of the sales clerks mouth!

Dr Colossus im not sure i understood your post but iam from melbourne im at Talylors lakes near Sydenham about 30 mins drive from the cbd in melbourne

sorry i didn't want to point fingers, but the store which triggered your malaise sound freakishly like allan's on bourke.... not that they are always that bad, they have been helpful once or twice, and i generally go into music stores with an attitude.... but i find allan's very bias toward the products they sell (ie; if we don't sell it, its useless) where as a lot of other stores in melbourne will come out and say " oh we don't stock that particular make, but i hear that they're very good"

ok i've stopped making sense now, that means time for coffee, sorry about this mess

ahhhhhhhhh i see what you mean now colossus no it was not allans but in general it is just how alot of stores are.

I will say though alalans has this one guy in the high tech section who gives you the eye real bad like your a thief or something he really turns you off

In Kansas City Guitar Source wins this dubious honor

First of all two years ago I put a franklin down on a strat, when I came to pick it up they had sold my layaway item to someone else and conveinintly lost all the layaway records associated with it.

Second during a routine repair of a friends mixer, Some how his piece got rented out to a band and wasnt there when he came to pick it up.

third they have been jacking arround my drummer for a month now on his new Mapex set.

these Assholes have got to go!!!
