I'm saying neither of them are sibilant mics, nor is either going to give you much proximity effect.

I'm saying they're two very obvious choices.
 
De esser is the hardest thing to screw up in your rack (well in my rack anyway)
 
Just to confuse the matter more

Well, since you've mentioned a desire for low sibilance and a "classic rock" sound, have you considered omnidirectional dynamic mics? Omnidirectional mics help control sibilance, too. One good example would be the Electrovoice 635. (At least, I think that's the right model number - somebody please correct me if I'm wrong on that.)
