i am confused about all this since the only mic i have ever used was a really cheap one i borrowed off my dad and had a cable permanently attached. do the sm57s come with cables? also i've seen some called the Sm57LC (less cable) is this just the same thing or a different type of model, and what does it mean? if i do need to get a cable separetly, what kind of cable?

er, please help!

You need a microphone cable with XLR ends. That needs to be connected into some sort of preamp (amplifying device).

so if i buy a Sm57 (no LC) it should come with a cable?

You buy the mic and also then buy the cable...Sh*t now Im confused...LOL

Buy the mic ...the cable is fairly inexpensive...good luck

Two Possibilities
Buy the mic. Open the box. Cable found.
Buy the mic. Open the box. If no cable, buy cable.
I'm gonna wager everything I have on scenario two.
If scenario one occurs, dont expect a wonderful cable.

cheers, it's just i was not expecting to be just buying a mic, cause i'm not very experienced with all that. seems a bit weird to me to not be able to use it without getting something else. but yeah... i'll buy a cable then. cheers.

From what I've seen, some retailers will include a cable with an SM57. Some don't. I think it just depends on the retailer. If I remember right, Musician's Friend was selling them with a cable.

Yes - but this is a package deal on the retailers part not the mfg's part.
It really isnt that odd to buy something and need something else to make it work (aka batteries not included)

yeah true. and i suspect most people buying microphones will have others, and therefore already have cables, or whatever.

i got two sennheiser e835s boxed up as sennheiser packages for £40 including a boom stand and a cable! the best part was when i convinced the guy in the shop to open them up and swap the leads for monster ones! therefore the mics were essentially free so i've only ever kept them as live backup :)
