Hi there,
I've recorded the same track (more or less) doing vocals & acoustic guitar on one mic (beta 57a and then 57). This is a good example of the sound differences. I was hoping the beta 57a would be better rounded and carry a better low end, listen and judge. Are there any recording techniques, plugin's that can give me a fuller sound with the beta 57a, because in my opinion the 57 sounds better...

with beta 57a

with 57

Impossible to say about the voc, since the 57 sample has a delay or verb on the voc, the beta sample sounds dry. Cant compare two voc tracks that way.

As far as the guitar, are you absolutely positive that every thing was identical when you recorded both tracks? I like the beta guitar track better, but I am having a hard time believing that just switching to a beta could make that much difference in the quality of the guitar track. I can see it having a hotter level, but your beta track sounds like the guitar was closer to the mic or something, something was different.

I've compared 57 and beta 57 side by side before, and the best my gear could detect was a hotter level, but nothing that would explain that kind of change in tone or timbre.....

I use the '57's a lot. That said , there is only so much you will be able to squeeze out of one of these things. Some Eq might help, try changing your mic placement and room. Beyond that you need a mic with wider frequency response. Also what are you recording it with? There are a lot of variables.

Guitar: Taylor 410ce
Vocals: mine

I'll have a few extra min. this weekend and will do a 'real' side by side and post the samples. I'll keep them raw, and we can go from there...

What kind of micing distances are you using in the comparisons? If you happen to be working anywhere near close range, little changes could make a big difference in the lower end of things.
