i have an older mic and its a Shure 55sh series 2... one like Johnny Cash used when u see something with him singing...

can anyone tell me about these mics? i mean i've read about them online, but i want personal experiences...

i'd like to know things like if their good to mic an instrument amp with or not..just different things to do and not to do...

thanks, Kevin Allen

It has kind of a pronounced roll off on the high end. It works well if that is OK with you. I used one for guitars, vox and tried it on a kick drum once. Wouldn't be my first choice for any of those things, but it might if I were recording an old school type country band or someone who wanted to go with a kind of lo-fi vibe.

Great mojo, not so great sound...needs plenty of gain and often feedsback when it gets it. Might be okay for a quieter gig, I wouldn't use it for recording unless it's all I had.
