Yeah, my rack is the perfect example as someone with a small budget, so it basically sucks haha.

Pretty uneventful here, but it's taken me quite a bit to gather this gear over the years. More impressive than the rack (if it could even be considered impressive) are the deals I've gotten on this equipment. I got the whole rack, with the Behringer headphone amp, Peavy and MXL 2 channel EQs and the Peavy 5 channel Noise Gate ALL for $150 on craigslist. Got the firepod for $350, and then just recently added that Furman and ART for $75. And then the casters were like 5 bucks. Oh, and I built that snake out of a TRS snake (Hosa of course) and some XLR connectors and a project box from radio shack. Only cost me about 55 bucks.

sweet rack Kevin, is that G9 a valve pre? it seems like i've seen that somewhere before....

Hey Julian- if you're considering DIY, you should check out seventh circle audio. the beige rack in my pic is from them, and they sound fantastic.
they all come as kits so you don't have to worry about sourcing parts or any of that stuff.

Cool, rockinrocker! I need to hear some SC stuff in person, because a lot of people are talking about them...! :) Do you have any recent samples?

Are you recording digital or analog? I don't see any converters.

Also, are those cigars on your rack? What you smokin there? :D

Nice! I see you used the tape trick on your power strip as well! :D
Yes, hahaha, excpet its marker. No one shall know who makes it now :D

I was using an Alesis 16 channel firewire board, but i got rid of it, i couldnt get it working properly. Now Im using my old 8 channel usb alesis. I was going to get a Motu 8pre, but I got monitors instead. Now Im saving my money for a vacation next month, so I probably wont have a new interface until April:o Oh yes, those are real Cubans, but they went to waste because I didnt smoke them right away.

pretty sick man... do you have a myspace of songs u recorded with that? I just got my firepod for 220$

There is a bunch of stuff missing at the moment . . . the hole in the middle is filled with a Presonus M80 and a Tascam CDA500. The little hole below the power amp gets filled with a DIY 12V organ PSU  Well, kinda DIY, I just bought a 12V switching PSU and dropped it in a 1u rack case, and added fuse, switch, and connectors . . .

The latest acquisition is right underneath the rack . . . an '80s vintage Sony turntable! :p

My '80s Sony turntable finally gave it up. I replaced it with an '80s vintage Optonica. I still have 800+ or so albums, so I feel compelled to still play them:D

God, I hate the image attachment goofiness...

Best I can do is throw in some links (and pray)...

The main racks - if this works:

Geez, you need to warn us before you put something like that up there.
I didn't have enough time to get a rag to wipe up all the drool that I managed to get all over my keyboard.

One hell of a rack there, man.

MM, what’s the 1u piece above the slam? Looks like a DIY stereo compressor (GSSL?).

'Tis... It's a "hot rodded" unit based on the SSL 4000 E/G. Tweaked for color (MCI416 output transformers) and actual usability (unlike the [SELF-CENSORED] SSL units, this unit actually understands what "line level" is).

I still have a few mods waiting in the wings... Attack time mostly. And I have to see if I can fit rotary switches in on the threshold and output gain controls.

I'm not too handy at that stuff though... I didn't even build the unit myself - I had someone build it for me. :-(

You bet. www.myspace.com/3831studios. The first song on there is a friend of mine's band that came up to record. I actually had to borrow his dad's firepod, since I recorded it all live and I needed more than 8 channels, so I ran them together. Other than that, I used mostly all my equipment. The second track was actually recorded with a Boss BR-1180 and I produced and mixed it.

I'm actually gearing up to sell my two EQs and noise gate, as I never use them.

I thought I replied to this, but I guess not! Stupid computers!! What kind of monitors did you get? I've heard really great things about MOTU, I've been looking into switching to a pre/converter set up, maybe get a Focusrite Octopre and then run them into a Motu 828.

Sorry to hear about the cigars. I did a similar thing with these four I left in a bag. I've been showering with them for a few weeks now, trying to let the steam breath them back to life. I read about a few different ways to restore cigars, but I'm not sure if it's working!

Ok, I'm confused...

Why is everyone taping over the manufacturer's name on those power strips? What's the deal?

I think it's just some tacky name, "American DJ" or something like that.

I guess they feel it wouldn't look right sat atop a stack of Manley, Lavry and Cranesong. :D

American (made in China) DJ (watered down to "kid in basement with cracked software that doesn't know how to use it" - and insult to actual DJ's, but that's what it's come to) Lighting (not only does this unit have no lighting *on* it, but anyone using it for lighting professionally must be pretty desperate - But it makes a great simple power control).

Yes, a big, ugly logo that no one wants to see.

Here is my Outboard processors rack. I have just installed some new gear...
rack-1.jpg

I have two other racks but they aren't as interesting. One contains my Akai sampler and a large drawer for manuals, mics, mic clips etc. etc.
The third rack is mostly electronics test equipment.

Note: the TC Triple-C is missing an ear - a replacement is on the way free of charge from the manufacturer (good customer service).

Regarding DIY gear, if you are looking for beginner stuff to get your hands dirty for the first time I highly recommend PAIA http://www.paia.com/
I built their vocoder kit many years ago and it was dead-easy. The instructions are very simple to follow.
From my experiences I'd have to say good luck with anything at Prodigy, they just don't accept any new members to the forum. Since 99% of the kits talked about there are only available through the forum - good luck...
