so i have a pair of m-audio bx5a monitors. if i listen to a song on youtube, it sounds perfectly fine. but if i download a song, and play it back through my monitors, it sounds HORRIBLE. i have noticed when i play acoustic type music, it sounds fine. but if i play like hardcore, deathmetal stuff, its just awful. but if i put the same song in my daw,(reaper) it sounds fine. is something wrong with my monitors?

Nope the monitors never lie. It's what deathmetal/hardcore stuff really sounds like. :laughings:

Seriously though ..... is it when you bounce the songs down to MP3?

about two threads down from you is someone saying that his BX8s are shite too..

I said buy rokkits...or maybe i didnt lol

if the song is in Reaper then it plays through your monitors anyway...so how can anything be wrong with them

and for the record monitors are not meant to sound good, and how are you downloading youtube stuff? at what bit rate? etc etc etc

Believe me it's how that stuff sounds. :D

Yep. If the OP had any idea what mixing engineers do to the drums in death metal songs to keep them from competing with everything else, he'd understand.

If the sound is sometimes good and sometimes bad with the same monitors then it isn't the monitors that are to blame. Look at the conditions that change along with the good and bad sound. In your case it's the playback software. Whatever player you're using for downloaded media is the most likely culprit. Go there and turn off any processing or "enhancement" that it may be adding.

its playing in windows media player. and haha moresound. a good engineer listens to everything!
