I have 1GB RAM right now and a dual-core processor, but when I play my recorded tracks back they get real choppy. My question is will upgrading to 2 GB RAM fix this problem? I am also recording at 96khz, should I go down to 44?

One gig of ram is plenty and if you haven't yet, get a separate drive to record onto. If I remember correctly, you can set up the SX3 to work utilizing both processors. Also go to this link and tweak your computer for music.

I would say go down to 44, i don't think 96 really sounds that much better...and I would also say more RAM might help too.

I don't know about the dual core thing, but on a side note, this is the second recent post w/ an AMD computer having a problem playing back choppy....is there a connection there or just coincidence?

Plenty of people run AMD processors in their recording machines without any trouble, including myself.

I muself have had two different amd processors and both have given me issues with each of my interaces one being the firebox and one M-Audio. I decided to just go intel since it seems like the companys write the software mainly for intel users, havent regreted it yet...

My AMD Athlon XP 2000+ worked great for years, and my AMD Opteron 140 works great now. It's single core, but gives me more than enough power to do most things in a single project. I have 1.5 gigs of ram

Note: extreme buffer settings (in your soundcard's control panel) can cause heavy loads on the computer aswell, resulting in choppy, crackling sound, midi notes dropping out, etc.

Do you have any idea what chipset you were running with the amd or your current intel?

Hey, your welcome. That link was to tweak your computer for music, the dual core issue you can find in 'your' help files.

What are you doing GoatingTheQuestions? I run a dual core AMD processor without a glitch. Can you explain what issues a processor may have with an interface please? Also, which companies write software mainly for intel users? I want to make sure I don't step in thier waters.
