My local store is selling one of these USED for $199CDN? Should i buy it?
I'll be recording singing and rap vocals...

well, what's CDN??? if that's the same as american dollars, then yes!!! it's a good mic, and as long as it's in good condition that's a good deal. it'll be handy.

Our dollar sucks, but it's still not as weak as a Canadian dollar (CDN). So this is even a better deal, considering the exchange rate.

Oh yea definitely...Its in CDN...too bad it does not come with a shockmount:(.

that means another $60 off my pockets for an AKG shockmount.

It's a pretty sibilant mic. A hiphop producer friend of mine has one and IMO its terrible. The C series mic's all kinda suck, but again that's just my opinion.

well, you ould look into the C2000B just on the side, because i got mine for $160 and it came with the H-85 shock mount with it that will fit the C3000B and many others... just a thought, i know that's not what you had in mind... and it's a stretch, but just thought i'd throw that out to you. the sibilance can be very true. i personally have never had a problem, but overall it's a pretty versitile mic. sounds good on drums too!!! good luck to you!!! maybe if you are looking for a vocal mic try the Rode NT1-A, or a SP B1.

A much better mic too. Of that crowd the 2000 is the best, and now here's Richie with a wrap up, (cue Richie...)
Oh Richie!

preference... that's what makes it crap. it's all due to preference. it's just like how a lot of people swear by the 57... and a lot hate it!!! just preference my brotha man. although i'm sure Mr. nubbin's has a good reason for why he doesn't like it. i'd say ask the fellow selling it to you to let you try it out in the store before you buy it, or give you a day with it and allow you to bring it back if you don't like it. what's he got to lose???

Jacob

Yes, as Jacobi says, it is definitely all about preference.

And as Mr. Nubs was so kind to point out, if your preference happens to be for shitty mics, then the C300B is a great choice.

.

I used the C3000B when it first came out and there wasn't enough tweeking in the world I could do to get a sound I liked out of it. It just sounded brassy and chunky! This is back when they went for $600! I have $100-$200 mics that blows the doors off of it!

2 mics I can recommend that are nice and flat with no sibilance, great for spoken word and rap, would be Studio Projects B-1 or a CAD M177 or M179. They are both very neutral and will faithfully reproduce your voice.

But otoh, the guy will be recording singing and rap. In that case a LDC seems not the right choice to me, a handheld dynamic might be a better choice.

As for the C3000, there are mics that sound better and cost less. AKG should be ashamed, after making really great mics for decades they're barking out mediocre stuff like the C1000 and c3000 for more than 10 years now, which should have stopped a long time ago.

well, don't underestimate the B series... they are QUITE versitile. i'll definitely be purchasing a couple in the near future. i've tried them on many applications, and they've done well. it's a good thing to have, especially if they are as cheap there as they are here. $99 american dollars here.

I love mine but I ONLY USE IT FOR ACOUSTIC GUITAR. I stick a sdc mic at the 12th fret and then use 3000 about 3feet out and slightly above the guitar. I also use the mic for high harmonies sometimes. I would not use it as a main vocal mic. It gets grainy on male vox and is very sibilant. If lead vox is your primary use I would look at something else. Go here and listen to Crazy to hear the c3000 on the rhythm guitar. Hope this helps.
