Short Scale Guitar?

Hi,

It's been a while since I've played guitar, and I'm looking to get a new guitar to start up again. I would very much like to get a short scale guitar, either 22.5, max 24. Why I want a such small guitar? Neuromuscular disease makes it hard for my fingers to get around, long story. Anyways, I'm not looking to get a beginner guitar, and I don't want to get a used guitar. I'm having a hard time finding a good semi-pro guitar in that size. Does anyone know of a company, or a custom shop that does them at a standard fee? Thanks for any help in advance.
 
Electric or acoustic?

Rickenbacker makes a really short scale electric guitar....For an acoustic, Taylor now lets you order any of their guitars in a short scale model.

I don't really know of any cheaper short scale guitars that aren't some 3/4 size garbage.

I used to have a 710 and it had a nice sized scale to it.

But the Taylor Big Baby is a very nice guitar IMO. Its cheap and it plays well. Can't beat that...but I guess you can, because it has a short scale that you might really like.
 
oops sorry, electric. i already have a short scale ovation which i like a lot. but i got to electric, cause i play wierd tunings, play pretty weak(not much velocity), and i like the light strings. to play guitar again is one of my highest goals in an attempt to counter-act this 'son of a bitch'.

hard2hear, do u know what series rickenbacker makes them in? any other suggestions? thanks very much for your tips!
 
Fender Duo-Sonics and Mustangs have a 22.5" scale length, Jaguars are 24". the Gibson Byrdland was 23.5" (Ted Nugents main axe for a long time), Gretsch Duo Jets are 24.6" I think.

Those are the shorties that I can think of. Of course, nearly all other Gibsons are 24.75, PRS guitars 25" and Fenders 25.5". Just for the refrence of people reading this thread.

A standard 710 would have a 25.5" scale. Only the brief limiteds had the shorter scale on them. Of course, as of last month, you can order any Taylor acoustic with a short scale. It's now an option because the limiteds were so popular.

well, actually shorter as possible is best, so it does look promissing. but too bad its so $$$.

Well, it probably was that big but it played so easily that I didn't notice it. :D
 
I had a Fender Mustang back in the day. The whammy is really bizarre so I filled in the cavity and put in a hardtail strat bridge. I also installed a couple Seymour Duncan pups. Sounded pretty good and very playable.

I thought that I read somewhere that even though the Mustang was advertised as a short scale guitar, few were actually made this way - most were fitted with longer scale necks. I thought of getting one for my 9 year old daughter because of this, but darn they are expensive and somewhat rare to come across for what was suposed to be a student model. They are a really cool looking guitar though...
