Has anyone used shopping carts on there websites?
I tried two free ones that I couldnt get to work.
Is there one you would reccomend?
Do you have to own a domain? could I use it on myspace?
any info would be helpfull

I use paypal on my website. It has worked fine for me. They have fairly clear instructions online for how to insert the script into your own website design. They also don't charge too much (something like 35 cents for a 12 dollar transaction).

See my store at www.poemadept.com for an example.

Thats what im looking for, do you have to have your own domain for that?
ie myspace?

I would think so...not even sure if myspace allows it. You might have to build your own website to be able to sell merchandise yourself.

If you're serious about making music, I strongly believe that the first and most crucial step toward self-promotion is to get your own website.

I been thinking of it, I have a old post asking about that. I been trying to learn some code first. Theres a few programs that help you do this too but im not sure if they work good(123 music store). I seen domains go for 5 a year to 10 a month so I dont know wich ones are rip offs. Or have extra chrages im realy getting tired of hidden fees.

I would definitely agree with getting your own website. Try googling for "HTML Tutorial".

Here's a good site to get you started: http://www.w3schools.com/html/

Getting a domain is generally a standard price. Network Solutions (www.networksolutions.com) should have all of the registration prices.

As far as hosting companies, I've seen some for lower than $8 per month. PowWeb and Brinkster are two to check out (www.powweb.com and www.brinkster.com).

Also, with regard to selling your CDs, I don't know how much you want to sell them for, but CDBaby (www.cdbaby.com) seems to be a pretty popular option also. The only downside is that you can't put their order form in your site. You have to link to them. Also, CDBaby takes $4 per CD, there's a $35 setup fee ($55 if you want a barcode) and they have a digital distribution agreement with online distributors, so people can download your music.

for your level, use the simple paypal add to cart buttons that they provide for you...

to have a true functioning shopping cart for your website you need the software, the space to host it, a merchant account, and the money to cover these things...and when the banks and credit card companies get involved, it gets pricey...

and yes, you can use the paypal shit on myspace...

just add the provided html to wherever on the site you want it....for instance, the about me section...or whatever

if you have anymore questions, ask away
i am a web developer

and you need to understand this concept if you want to build a website.

TWO SEPERATE THINGS:

A:) Domain: the name of your website (ex: www.homerecording.com) and the general nameserver information pointing towards a

B:) HOST: this is the actual space online where you store your content

domains can be registered for periods of 1 year or longer, with many renewal options...hosting companies you can pay per month, whatever

if you are interested in your own hosting...i offer cheap hosting to a lot of my clients who don't need to go nuts...i charge 35 bucks a year, no setup fees, etc

and a cheap place to get a domain is godaddy.com it's like 10 bucks a year...or cheaper...whatever.

Try this place. It's run by musicians so they make it easy as hell for anyone to set up their site, put files, set up a store, change designs, you name it. I'm no internet expert, but I set up my site in a few hours and it's been working amazingly for me since. I'm paying 19.99 a month for 1000gigs storage. I think you can pay 14.95 for 500gigs. www.bandzoogle.com
