shock mount for mxl603?

is it necessary to use a shockmount for the mxl 603s? i've seen them around the itnernet but i spoke to a guy today who said just using the clip that comes with the mic will do a good job
 
You'll get better results with the shock mount because it isolates the mic from noise being picked up through the stand - like someone walking on a stage.
