ok, i have an akg perception 100 condenser mic, and i can't get the thing to work. I just use the mic for vocals. I plug into a fostex multi-track for phantom power. The mic has always worked before, but when i tried to use it today, i couldn't get it to do anything. If you got up really close to the mic it would make faint sounds, but that was it. I've tried plugging the mic into different inputs and everything else i can think of and nothing's working. If anybody has any suggestions pleae tell me, I don't have the money to go buy another mic right now.

thanks

is it still under warrenty?, have you tried a different cable? (xlr). check th eoutput signal from the fostex with a different pair of headphones. does the mic work with another phantom power source? does a non phantom power mic (dynamic mic) work with your fostex? does anything work with your fostex?

if you dont have another phantom power source take it to your local music store (guitar center) and try it with one of their mixers and a pair of headphones, pretend like your shopping for a mixer that will work with your mic either way it goes say you have to think about it, if your mic works with their mixer than your fostex phantom power is weathered if it doesnt work with their mixer than the mic is weathered and have the store clerk help you get a new one of whatever you need. because whatever is broke beetween the two its probly not woth fixing campared the price of an equal replacment

...A few ideas (including the obvious ones):

Did you change the mic cable?

Has the mic been dropped?

On the Fostex, did you test the inputs with, say, a dynamic mic to make sure they are delivering normal volume? Or do you have an instrument you can do that with?

Conversely, do you know someone who records where you might be able to plug the suspect mic into their gear to eliminate (or confirm) the Fostex or the mic as the culprit?

Finally, I will assume that you normally would plug the mic in before applying phantom power and turn phantom off before removing it? Just checking.

Doublecheck that you didn't accidentally route something somewhere on the Fostex that squashes the inputs so all you hear is bleedover.

I don't know if this will help, but I hope so...

Best,
CC.

well, after fiddling with the mic for about thirty minutes it just started working again out of nowhere. I don't know what was wrong, but it's working now, thanks for all the suggestions, I really have no idea what it was
