Hey,
Im just wondering if this setup will give me half decent results, or im just plain stupid!

Mics: Shure SM57, AKG D790, AKG Perception 200

Yamaha MG10/2 Mixer--> Alesis 3630 Compressor--> Tascam US122--> Cakewalk Homestudio

Thanks Drake!

Sure! It's all quality stuff, and I use the US-122 myself. And I still have the first SM57 I ever bought.

Well then ive found the biggest flaw out of all my equipment... ME! lol

Dont feel bad- thats usually the case. Some people choose not to admit ti though. :)

The 3630 compressor is generally regarded as a turd. Also, you dont list anything to monitor with. If i were you and in the market to drop some more money, I'd be looking a decent set of nearfield monitors (i about the $300-$500 range). It may be that the biggest flaw in your chain is that you cant hear what you're doin.

Never use the alesis compressor which is one of the worst pieces of audio gear ever made. Get a good mic pre.

If you have a good mic pre and a SM57 and things do not sound good it is not the recording gears fault.

I second that... I got one for christmas and took it back for monitor stands.. lol

How would a Behringer Tube Composer T1952 stack up? It looks pretty good, im on a pretty tight budget, 100-150 is my absolute max. Also im using my stereo as monitors :rolleyes: i cant afford a set of 300$ monitors, but would some active monitors in the range of 100-150$ be good?

Propably not a large (or any) improvement over using a stereo. I'd hold off on the new compressor and save up for monitors. There was a mod for the 3630 in the last issue of Tape-op. The "2 snip" method or something. Looked pretty easy. Supposed to make the 3630 pretty usable.

Disclaimer; I dont own an Alesis 3630 now or in the past and I've never done the mod.
