I'm looking to expand my studio a bit. At this point I'm using a presonus firepod and am looking to add new pres and maybe convertors. however, since the firepod can only use two external pres, i've tossed around buying a new setup. i would keep the firepod and use it just as a preamp section into whatever interface i choose. would spending $800 on two delta 1010s (two because i want more preamps than just 8) be worthwhile on the convertor side of things? also, how do people feel about the motu 192hd, it seems to be a great box, but is 1700...wondering if it'd be worth it to save up for that. thanks!

yes, what i meant was i can use the firepod as my pres and use the 2nd delta 1010 to add more enternal pres. i'm sorry if there was any confusion.

this left me more confused than before....if the 1010 doesnt have built-in pre's then how will it add more "enternal" (what ever that is) pre's?

I think he ment, external pre's? Why buy 2 1010's and not more pre's for each channel of the 1010? If you really want more preamps?

well..thats what I was thinking...but he says he is buying a second 1010 to add more pre's....that makes it sound like the 1010 has them built-in but it does not.

Uh... that's not true. The FIREPOD has line inputs for all eight inputs. You could use eight external pres if you want.

first...unless i'm wrong, the line inputs on channels 3-8 are on the front and would not bypass the already existing preamp, which is my concern. if i plan on buying more high end preamps, wouldn't they get dumbed down by the firepods?

second...let me try and explain the delta1010 senario with no confusing typos. the reason i would get two delta 1010s is for expansion in the future. i am aware that the delta1010 is nothing but convertors and line inputs. what i meant by adding 8 more preamps, was adding 8 more preamps in the future. which leads to what i guess i should have been asking in the first place.

i guess i have two questions now that will answer everything for me.

1) is there a way to get 8 external and better sounding preamps into the firepod while COMPLETELY bypassing the existing ones (i am aware that it's possible on lines 1 and 2)

2) how much better would the convertors be on a motu 192hd vs. a delta 1010...on the same token...would it be worth the money or would it be more wisely invested in preamps, mics, etc

i'm sorry for all the confusion, but thank you for the replys
