How does this look...

M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 Soundcard
M-Audio Audiobuddy Preamp
Shure SM57

Currently i have an M-Audio Revolution card...with a Behringer preamp/mixer and the SM57 and I'd like to upgrade to the bove setup.

Question: Is the absence of a mixer going to matter? When I record now, I never mess with the settings on the mixer...they stay flat.

I record Electric and Acoustic guitars and vocals.

Looks good, and you can mix in your recording software (Sonar, Cool Edit, etc.)

The only reason you would need a mixer is if you plan to record more than just two sources to your hard disk at one time. Since your card only supports 2 channels (right and left) you can only record 2 tracks simultaneously. If you are only recording an acoustic and your voice at the same time, then 2 channels will be all you need. Now if you want to more than just 2 things at one time, you will need more input channels in your soundcard and you will either need more preamps, or you will need to invest in a mixer. Also, if you are recording one thing at a time, don't waste time recording in stereo if you are only using one mic. You can always mix it down in stereo once you have all your tracks loaded into your mixing program.

Hope that helps....
