well i was blown away by what was eventually needed to achieve the results i wanted ... im not saying u cant achieve good results from limited gear , cos frankly , thats what im doing!!!
Like c7 , i got into the pc realm because it was taking off , tape was (supposedly..) going out. I had never owned nor operated a pc when i bought a p3 450 , an ISIS 8in 4out full duplex card ,
ra100 amp + alesis
monitor 1's , alesis quadraverb , 2x twin channel dbx compressors ,
behringer eurorack 2642A desk , shitload of cables (more and more everyday!!!!), behringer powerplay headphone amp , rode nt1 , more and more mics , more cables!!! 12 channel multicore , heaps of foam , guitars and any other expensive thing thats going to cost me money ............ And now ive found about another $10 000 worth of gear to buy.. But i think its all been worth it , i knew nothing when i started out a year ago , now i think i know enough to lay down and mix some decent tracks. Like c7 i really need a reverb unit , something like the lexicon..im building a vocal booth which will be very dead (quiet hopefully!!), so the reverb will help create some space i think.. Im sick of trying to get a good natural reverb out of the quadraverb..
I think also another desk is in order , something more along the lines off 32 channels , also a 16 track tascam reel to reel .. hopefully in the next year this should happen.. but basically ive found that recording kind of dominates my life .. but hey , im not complaining.. i think i really most importantly need a lot of practise ... sometimes i wish i could buy this , but unfortunately i havent found a stockist yet , if anyone does let me know ... actually dont bother , the trial and error way is kinda fun ... until u spend a few grand on something u wish u hadnt bought ... well hasnt happened yet , i hope it doesnt either ...
i must say krystof , i think all of us here are the same in the sense we love music , and recording is the best medium we have to display some great music.. ours and others!! anyway thats my thoughts ...
cheers all
