Me and some fellow musicans are planning on setting up shows soon. I figure it's an amazing way of putting your band out there. We plan on just selling the tickets for cheap enough to through another show. The cheaper the tickets the more people go(we hope).

So what do yah think and do you have any suggestions about how to throw a sucessful show?

Do you have your own venue? Because if you're selling tickets to someone else's venue, that's illegal, bud :) However, if you're doing it at your house or something, whatever works!

nah. thats kinda weird.. .because i know a lot of people that sell tickets aswell. I don't see how it can be illegal considering you pay the venue to have the show there in the first place. Plus, how would you even get money from it if you dont sell tickets?

see. you're first post makes way more sense now... That's a big assumption to make. I've never paid a venue to play. Where are you located geographically that you can't get gig that pays you to play...

There's different situations. Over here, you can find places to play, that will pay you. Other venues organize concerts, and if they don't want to book you, you can rent the place, and organize it yourself. So, you're really not paying to play there, but you rent the place...

Dunno if this is what happens here...

On the other hand, I saw a swedish band last week, opening for another more popular swedish band. They had 45 minutes, and hardly said a word, because -as they said- they paid quite alot to play there, so they wanted to put as much music in it as they could. And they were good too. In my humble opinion.

haha im sorry for not explaining myself. I am kinda new to this and didn't know thats how some people get shows. I live in red bank, new jersey(home of count basie, jay and silent bob and the boss(bruce springstien) might I add) and the only way to get a show around here is to talk to someone throwing a show or throw it your self. There are a lot of venues but people have to set it up.. the venue doesn't do that. So thats where I am coming from and I am sorry for the confusion :/

hey Virus,

I went to check out your webpage.
You've got three popups on it.
Didn't know if you knew that.

How have the bought shows gone?

yeah... here in columbus OH there's a couple of venues you pay to play at... basically you have to buy a 100 tickets and then resell them... usually you take a hit on the tickets and make it up on merch... The Alrossa is the one that comes to mind. Most places like pubs here will let you set a price at the door that they collect..$1-$5 depending on your history with them... and then you just hope they give it all to you instead of the bouncer pocketing it.
