Questions similar to this are asked all of the time I am sure and I apoligize for asking another one, but I would really appreciate some feedback. My bands have just moved into a new rehearsal space which is 10x14 feet and 18 feet tall. The walls all have a foam-like material or carpet on them, the floor is carpeted, the ceiling is not padded it is a hard surface. What kind of monitors should I get (near or mid field?), how high should I mount them, how far apart, how far from the adjacent wall, and does it matter how I mount them-with a stand or on the wall? How far shoud I sit from them when I mix? Or (I bet this is the likely answer) is it something I have to learn about myself through trial and error? Even if this is the case I would really appreciate any suggestions or guidelines you could give which I could use as a starting point. Thanks for your time.

Also, my budget for new monitors is about 400 bones.

Is this a bad question? I looked for info on this throughout the mixing/mastering forum-couldn't find anything... but I could only access the most recent three pages, so maybe there is info on this but I just can't access it. Anyway, if you know anything on this subject please reply-I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Steve,

You didn't get any replies because your question was so vague. Are you asking what brand/type monitors to buy, or where to put them? You said it's a rehearsal space, so do you mean monitors for mixing music, or PA speakers so you can all hear each other?

These speakers will be used strictly for recording purposes not as a PA. We are recording in our rehearsal space. I want to know both what type (near or mid field) of monitor I shoud get as well as where I should place them in the room. Thanks.
