You guys ever arrange your setlist by keys?

Everybody is familier with the Dead using dyamics to build to climax but I have also read about them using the keys of the tunes themselves as a guide------ that is working UP the scale as they progress through the set. I see this in other jambands as well.

That's a cool idea. I have to remember it.


BTW, our main crowd pleasers were Enter Sandman, Rocky Mountain Way, and American Woman (metalized with a funk bass solo in the middle).

about the key thing,we do that... only problem is we've turned stuff into huge medley's.... in general we stick to set listsfor the sake of overlapping leadins and fades... we also arrange lists by mood

I do things a little different. I use the set list to control the mood of the show. the songs are pre-planned to get the right effect from the crowd and to allow me to have the right guitar for the song at the right time.
