Hey, I'm probably becoming infamous for my ultra noobness but I was wondering if anybody knew about the Sennheisser e835. What can it be used for. How does it compare to other well known mics like the sm57, sm58 or beta57A, ect....

Thanks!

I"ve not used the e835 but have an e935 which I use live.

Never used it as a studio mic and not starting anytime soon, however, based on its live performance against an SM58, which I also have, if those were my choices, I'd use the e935.

Vocal mic which sounds better on my rather deep voice than an SM58 and which allows me greater dynamic control IMHO.

I believe the e835 is similar tonally.

YMMV.

If you can only have one of that list, however, and you're recording multiple sources, I'd choose the SM57 for its sheer usefulness and save up for a LDC for vocals.

Cheers :drunk:

I find the e835 and the model e935 that Armistice mentioned, similar to the SM 58 and 58beta respectively, but more open ..... or dare I say brighter (maybe).
But not as bright as an Audix which I feel are kinda harsh.
And as Armistice once again stated really good live .... never thought once of using them in the studio.
But in a pinch? I don't know. Probably where I would use a dynamic microphone normally. Though it would have to go through an audition where the odds are grossly stacked against it.

The e835 is an excellent cardioid vocal mic. for all sorts of situations.

The SM58 has a tailored response to help a vocal cut through a backing band - if you want this sort of response then the e840 would be the better option (or the e935 if you have more money).

The e945 is similar to the Beta58 in regard to polar-pattern and response.

Ive used an e835 on most vocals Ive done, even with a choice of condensers, limited as they are....its a great little mic, really good for my voice which includes plenty of sibilance that my condensers highlight way too much

I havent tried many dynamics, Ive heard it compared to the sm58...the good thing is its fairly safe to buy off ebay...whereas sm58's have been cloned to death

I think I picked up mine for $60 with case and clip...thats probably the best value $60 Ive spent since I started this hobby

oh and ive dropped it....everywhere, if thats a requirement lol

well if buzz means lying face down unconscious in a pool of vomit and urine then yes...I get that with guiness :D

I know what you mean KC ... last time I drank Guinness someone tapped me on the shoulder and I turned around to see who it was and it was the floor!
