Anyone got anything, good or bad, to say about this mic?

Hurry. I need to make up my mind in 14 hours. :D

Great on kick. I've never used it on snare, but some say it's good on snare. It's a great mic for my voice ( a bit nasaly). Great on toms and congas. You can't miss with this one. Go for it if the price is right.:)

Whoops.... I didn't read carefully. I thought you meant the MD 421 rather than the 412. Forget all that I said, never used the MD412.

Here's a picture of the mics I'm thinking of buying. Just to jog your memories

They look like the original MD-421 large diaphragm dynamic mics, which are GREAT mics IMHO. I've owned and used 421's for years, and have used them on a load of things, such as rack and floor toms, kick, vocals, guitar amp, and brass instruments. If you can get the original MD-421 (not the MD-421 II) in good condition for a reasonable price, jump on them.

Take a closer look, they're much smaller than the 421 though they have the same shape.

If memory serves me well, I have tried them a long time ago (mid eighties).

They are mics for recording consumer cassette and R to R recorders.

They don't sound bad, but I would not buy them.

Get a 421!

You're right, they aren't 421's (their cables appear to be permanently attached). I'm with Han - buy a real MD-421 and you won't be dissappointed.
