Hi slutz,

I got this mic today at a flea market, it cost me less than the lunch I had afterwards . It works perfectly though I didn't have the time to test it thoroughly in the studio. Admittedly I don't have a lot of microphone experience and knowledge and wanted to know if it's a reasonable choice for vocals on a budget, even though it's a dynamic shotgun conference type of mic. Here's a pic, mine is the same only black and with an XLR connection instead of the DIN one in the picture (pictured is the 402LM, mine is 402U):

Only details I have are from a pdf brochure I found on the web. It was made in the mid seventies, 200 ohm impedance, 80-12500 hz response, pressure gradient transducer, super cardioid.

Has anybody ever heard this little guy and would care to comment? Thank you.

I have never heard of it, but I would bet it would sound pritty good. Reading the manual it appears to be for spoken word interview recording, this usually means a very flat sounding mic but that is OK, it also states that it's good in bad rooms, i.e if you were interviewing someone in a reverb prone lounge room, so if your recording space has a few problems this mic will help.

I think you will find it very useful, here is a link to the manual.

Cheers

alan.

Thanks for the link.

It sounds ok to me, but I have very little vocal recording experience as I said. I need to find a windscreen for it.

Just stick one of these in front of it, then you will have the pop screen for future mics that you buy as well.

Cheers

Alan
