Is getting the e906 worth the money?

  • The e609 will do, but if you can just save up the money and get the e906 later, you won't regret it.

I have the e609 and from the limited of times I've used it, I've loved it. Never tried the 906 though.

Alright, thanks.

Any chance you could specify how you use it? By itself with a guitar amp? Have you used it on toms or anything?

Thanks.

Here's a quote from one of my posts in a similar thread a while back:

TyphoidHippo in some other thread said:
"I have two e906 mics - and you couldn't pry them from my cold, dead hands. They are absolutely perfect for modern, heavy, distorted guitars. I had an e609, and didn't really see too much of an improvement over a 57 (but it was a little better).

So....there you go - I say shell out the extra 70 bucks and get the 906, it's totally worth it, in my opinion."

....and I still feel the same. Hope that helps!

if you can afford a 906, then it would be foolish to get a 906 when you could get an RE20.

I, too, own two 609's, and I friggin love the things. Never used the 906's, though. The 609's work wonders on guitar cabs and snares.

It could be that the people that love their 609's, are referring to the older, more expensive "black" type, instead of the cheaper silver type.

Supposebly the silver one is more bright or even harsh/thin.
I have an older black one and it's a nice complementary mic for an SM57 as it has more smoothness and thickness.

Sorry I'm to lazy to do the searching for you and provide a link, but someone over at Gearslutz made sound clips of E906 vs E609 vs E409 (kind of a classic but out of production).

Based on these clips only I preferred the E906 by kind of a lot.

I got a e609 silver and I am not a fan. Tried it on guitar a time or two and always ended up switching over to a 57. I have to find something I like it for.

I hear similar opinions more often. Goes to show that cheaper is indeed worse...
The black e609 is anything BUT thin/sharp/harsh sounding. Thick, warm, meaty, even 'clouded' come to mind, that's why it can complement an SM57 so nicely.

Ya I was pretty disapointed. I've seen some blacks on ebay for reasonable prices. I want to try my K6 ribbon on guitar but my whole studio is torn down and has been for months. I have bought about 5 mic's I haven't been able to try out. It's starting to wear on me:mad::eek::o
