So, I bought this mic about a year ago and am just getting started in recording now. I was curious if anyone uses this mic for recording their guitar cabinets.

What do you think?

Any thoughts on mic placement? 6-8 inches away or just hang down in front of grill?

Thanks.

i use my e609 a lot when i play out. i just put it right up against the grill and to the edge of the cone. i'm playing through a fender princeton reverb (10 inch speaker) so i need all the bass reponse i can get. up against the grill utilizes the proximity effect and i get better bass by putting it near the edge of the cone.

i like the mic live but i haven't recorded too much with it.

Use the Search function. There has been tons of discussion on this mic and it's use in recording guitar amps.

Basically, there seems to be a consensus that it is a great alternative to the SM57. Some people like the 57 better, some like the e609 better..

I have one and I like it A LOT better than a SM57 on my amp, with my guitar, in my room, through my setup, playing my music.

However, I like the Sennheiser MD421 WAY BETTER than either the e609 or the SM57. But I usually use the MD421 AND the e609 when recording my rig.

Cheers!

Cool, glad to hear people like this mic. I'll do a search on it and read what folks say.......

What about condenser mics?

I was wondering, what about using condenser mics for guitar cabs? I've been thinking in making myself of a MXL V69M or a MXL 2003 as they are really nicely priced and seem to have excellent reputation. Any advice???

I've been using it on bass cabinet lately and it kicks ass in that capacity.
