Musiciansfriend is having a special with 3 Sennheiser 815s mic's for only $99. ( hope this link will work: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7...7142277281/search/g=home/detail/base_id/53892 )

Im looking for vocal\instument mics similar to the sm57/58 variety ( my price range is around $100). Right off the bat, I noticed less of a frequency range (80hz-15khz), and of course...the price. But Ive associated Sennheiser with Quality in the past, so Im left doubting myself.

Two phrases keep rining in my head: "You get what you pay for" and "If it sounds good, It is good"

So has anybody used these mics? Any reviews or experience would be helpful.
Thanks in advance.

Bueller??

Anybody know where I could find reviews on this mic (or any mic for that matter?)

Thanks

If you are looking for Sennheiser in the SM58 range, these fall a little short. I personally like the 835s, the ones they sell for 3/$198. I think these are more comparable to the 58. I tried the 815, and while it doesn't sound awful, I think you could better spend your $$ on the 835s. That in mind, you will never, ever find a mic proven regarding sound and durability like a 58.

My 2 cents.
Pete

i agree with battleminnow, the 835 is pretty much as low as you want to go. they sound decent enough. and dont let the frequency response specs fool you. while they are important, a difference of a few Hz at the top and bottom is not a big deal.

I also tend to agree re: 835 vs. 815 - I was considering the 815's for band rehearsal vocals but was talked out of it by the wife. So bought a 835 instead and find it to be as nice as a 58, with a slightly more open and bright character (and a little less boomy on the proximity side). Anyhow I like it as a live mic.
