On the Roland VS-2400CD I notice only 12 faders on a 24 track machine.Shouldn't there be 24 faders? How does this work, because it's kind of off putting to me.
Thanks!

Hint -- you don't see all 24-faders at the same time!

The music will still sound good when you put it on you home Stereo.:D

I don't have a 2400 so I'm not sure but I looked at the picture on the Rolandus website and I'd guess that one of those buttons to the right of the faders will switch the faders between 1-12 and 13-24.

You can record 12 tracks simultaniously, but playback 24. Some of the faders are stereo, meaning, they are actually 2 tracks in one fader that you can assign as left and right.

The extra 12 faders arent included, those are an extra $10.00 each...

They're mostly pulling your leg. On a VS studio, when you hit the track/fader button, it will give you access to the rest of the tracks. When you hit it again, it'll take you back. This can be a problem when mixing, if you need to ride the faders.
For instance, on my VS1824CD, faders 1-12 control tracks 1-12. When you hit the track/fader button, faders 7-12 now control tracks 13-18. When you hit the button, the level stays set wherever it was, until you touch the fader. Problem is, if you're adjusting levels on the fly, this is a pain in the ass. So what you do is a track exchange, moving stuff you don't need to adjust on the fly to tracks 13-18. Then set the levels, and do your fader riding on 1-12. Frankly, I find it's simpler to just use it as a 12 tracker, so I never have that problem. Yeah, it's stupid, but it's the way they designed it. I agree, a 24 tracker should have 24 faders.-Richie

Boy, am I glad I only have an 880 EX...

I always thought that Roland's doubling up on tracks was lame, and I think they did this right from the get-go with the 1680.

I don't mind it. When I bought mine the sales guy was cool and didn't BS me at all. He said it was a 16 tracks but I am only get 12. 8 monos and 4 stereo tracks.

From that stand point I have never been disapointed.

RTFM newbie douchebag.
In all fairness, don't cut yourself short, that's a fully stupid question.
I think Roland gear might be a bit too newfangled for you....
Doesn't your wk-3500 have full recording capability?

Subtractor, there's no evidence the original poster owns this puppy, or its manual. He was just looking at it. You don't need to call him names. And he probably could download that manual, which could take 2 1/2 hours on a dialup connection. This is a place where people ask and answer questions if they can. So how come your axe is so dull that you have to grind it on the nice newbie?-Richie

Guess you haven't seen Skyy's Casio thread, Richie...

Daf (loved your CD, btw)

He's far from a nice newbie...
He's a casio pimping, bad mouthed little fudge pumper.
And he needs to burn in casio hell!!!

Thanks for the tip, I'll check out the offending thread and draw my own conclusions. DD- Thanks for your kind words. It's getting better every day.-Richie

Ditto sub. Sky's a dork nut. Sky, dosnt casio make a digital recorder you can try to sell us? Tell me its better than the roland and the yamaha, please.

Subtractor's just pissed because his girlfriend is more man than he'll ever be...

I agree…if someone with limited funds wants a good rig for cheap, they could get a couple of 880EX’s and midi them together.

Yeah. I suggested that once to you, didn't I?

;)

Sometimes only having 8 tracks is a pain, but it inspires discipline and thinking the song through from the beginning. The other thing about the 1680 (not sure about the 18xx's) is that you have to press 'shift something' to be able to pan the tracks. Annoying if you are doing some psychedelic pan back and forth at mixdown. Automix was supposed to handle that, but that can be a pisser to get to work properly.
