Sadly, I'm selling my Tascam TSR-8, some tape, an ES-60 Syncronizer, manuals, and cables due to an upcoming move.
Had a quest to build a tape studio and gathered some very valuable info on how to implement tape and I learned a lot (thanks sweetbeats). Unfortunately, I won't have space for this in my new digs, and haven't really used it enough to justify having it. Please feel free to email me at davebwiley at gmail dot com if you have any questions, or check out the ebay listing above.

Sorry to see you leaving the hobby. Good luck with your move!

First thing I would do is to revise the listing to be just the TSR-8 alone. Separate the items into different listings. Items usually sell for more separately than if you throw unrelated things into the same auction. The TSR-8 and the ES-60 may seem like they go together, but not to a person looking for just a TSR-8 or an ES-60. You’ve reduced your pool of buyers to those looking for a TSR-8 AND an ES-60.

Your starting price is high for a TSR-8, and the shipping is unusually high because you’re shipping several items. I can hear people swearing!!! :D They’ve been looking for a TSR-8, but yours has stuff they don’t want and don’t want to pay for.

For the best price concentrate on the TSR-8. Photos of the heads are a must for the savvy buyer.

One other important note: In your listing you say that the ES-60 will allow synchronization to a “Digital rig.” If buyers interpret that as meaning a DAW they’ll be in for a nasty surprise. The ES-60 will not sync between a DAW and an ATR by itself. It will sync ATR’s, VTR’s and digital tape units like the DA88.

I would even sell the tape by itself unless it truly is a freebie. I wouldn’t use ATR brand tape with any of the TSR/MSR decks and nor will many others that understand the increased wear and tear these tapes will cause. If the tape adds to the total cost including shipping it may be seen by potential buyers as just another thing cluttering the listing.

True, it only takes one buyer to get the minimum you’re asking, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it had no bids over the 10 days. And if it does sell be prepared for some fuss from the buyer if they try to get the ES-60 to work with their DAW.

Hope that helps. :)

Oh wow, I'm down I-10 from you, albeit a few hours. If I had known earlier...

+1 to what Beck said though.

Are you moving to a smaller place and don't have the room for the gear?

solid advice guys.

thanks so much for the help. i'll revise that auction tonight for sure.
thanks for the heads up on the ES-60 as well... you guys are winners.

i'll probably still throw in the tape and the snakes though.

as far as my motives, I am planning on re-vamping my studio's front end and would like to throw the money from the tape rig towards a nice lunchbox... I was thinking of going with the 500 series stuff that Fish Five audio makes. I hear it's good.

I'm not totally out of the analog game though. I'll be in the market for a nice 2 track to use as my mixdown deck in the next few months.

done!

Hopefully that looks better. I ditched selling the sync box for shipping reasons, and like you said I think my post may have been rather misleading about it's ability to sync to a DAW. That could have been disastrous. Losing the extra stuff cut the weight and dimensions down and the shipping costs dropped in half. I also lowered my starting price.

I am moving my home studio to what will probably turn out to be a smaller space. It will be in a much quieter area though, which will be awesome

It's an awesome machine and I hate to see anyone have to part with theirs. Good luck on your next studio design.;)
