You know guys, this glue thing is a valid selling point. Why don’t you put info like this on your web site and in your advertisements. As long and hard as I’ve researched the imported mic industry, I never knew this, and it’s a good fact to know.

Well I did at one point, and I even did it on this very BBS. If you recall when Harvey Gerst took pictures our our C1 next to a Marshall and made referrence that our capsule was glued and the competitors capsule had all these screws, well I got reamed out by a lot of guys out there saying that I was "screwing" everyone by not using screws on the rear clamping plate of the C1.

So you can see why I am so gunshy over this issue. I know it is better, Neumann who does it knows, but then I got blasted for telling people right here...So you just can't win!!!

I remember that thread, now that you mention it. I don't remember or didn't pay attention to the part about it slipping over time if it wasn't glued, though. You know, now that I think of it, looks like glue would be cheaper than screws anyway. Maybe it's the time or the difficulty involved. Oh well, it's a valid point and I'm glad you guys brought it to our attention.
 
I didn't take part in that thread. Man, I hate it when a few bad eggs ruin it for the rest of us who want to learn. :(

I dont think that harvey was a bad egg, he just did a comparason thread, I do remember that as a result of it, I bought my C1. Funny thing but last week I was asked my opinion of SE mics by my buddy that runs my studio supply and I emailed Mr Caseys explanation to him, now He has something to think about, and learned a little about mics.
 
I've never seen that thread, which means I've never read it. Got a link? I just want to know if there is a way to tell if it's glued or not without having to open up the mic? Also, I was wondering if glued, sandwiched, and bolted would be better?

For the record, I did not say that Harvery said anything bad on that thread. I merely pointed out he brought it up and others had a very good time. It is only too bad they did not know what they were talking about, otherwise they would have learned something from me, instead of bashing me at the time.

Just want to clear that up...:D

I just got done reading that whole thread, and there is some very good infor in that thread. It answered my question about the glue/bond and etc. Please don't hold back on the acount of that old thread, it turned out to work in everyone's favor. I'm just here to learn, so if your here to teach, I'm all ears, as I'm sure others here are also. Don't be shy Harvey, Alan, Brent, etc? Thanks

So the Marshalls don't use glue? Where is that thread?

I think we're talking past each other here at the very least, Harvey. Can you show me a V67 diaphragm that is glued and clamped as you say here below? I all but begged the upstairs crowd there for years to glue and clamp the diaphragms, but they maintained the opinion that it was a non-issue (and not cost effective).

Ahhh, now we're getting some place. There was definitely some misunderstanding here. I was not aware that the V67 is only clamped, not glued and clamped. That does change things somewhat. See why this forum needs you? It's an interesting question.

I bet there are many other Marshall mic's that are not glued also.
 
Why would a microphone manufacturer choose not to use glue? And, by the way, I know for a fact that the Ramones used glue. Does that make them good too?

I don't know if "all" modern SC are glued or not, but we do now know that the Studio Projects C1 is only glued and not bolted and we also know the Marshall V67 is only bolted and not glued.
 
So to re-bring up a question that slipped through the cracks, does anyone know if the Rode capsules are glued?
 
I too would like to know it the Rode capsules are glued (and bolted) or what?

Also, Dan DA said the Marshall MXL 603s is NOT glued, so that means "all" modern SC mic's are NOT glued. I reposted Dan DA post below.

Not to dispute Alan, but I don't think SE makes mics for anyone.
They were some food brokers in the Bay area (one of them is a classical musician) who decided selling microphones was more interesting than selling macaroni (or whatever).

SE is a distributor - not a manufacturer.


At least that's the information that I have on the subject.
