I have a few songs we recorded on a VSR-880 that I am getting ready to dump into Vegas & finish. These are some rough mixes we did a while back of 2 of these songs. Due to our limited knowlege & eqiupment these basically sound like crap, but I am posting them in hope of getting some good comments & suggestions that will give me some ideas on where to go from here. We will definitally re-record some of these tracks (most likely vocals). Anyways, rip away!:D

Just Promises & Unfound

don't kid yourself, limits are limits, but these don't sound like crap. IMO these are very good tracks to work with. I don't know how long you been recording, but , the more you listen, the more you'll learn. I wish I could have had tracks sounding like this 5 years ago, when I started fooling around with this hobby. Your music isn't my cup of tea, but as for the recording, good job. And this is from someone with a lot to learn about recording at home.

Keep'em coming,

I listened to unfound. It seemed to have 2 "skips", one at around 2:20 and one earlier. I'm not too good at giving specifics. The recording was good but somehow lacked punch. (NO, I don't know what I mean). I couldn't relate to the imagery--which is just a matter of personal preference. I agree that retracking the vocals might liven it up a bit.

Thanks for listening. I think the skips happened when I converted to mp3. I agree with you about the lack of punch. I think we may have run the stereo mix through a compressor at mixdown-bad use of compressor may be the culprit here.

I listened to both tunes. Just Promises was a great song. I"m on my 100th play right now. What both tunes seemed to lack is space. Both sonic space and stage space. Know what I mean? Don't worry about compressing for more punch just yet. compressing will just compound the lack of space.

Both tunes were pretty good on the performance side. Be sure to post your Vegas mixes! Vegas kicks ass. I might go back to it just to get out of my Nuendo rut.

"unfound"

Pretty creative chord progression... the bass & rhythm guitar are fighting each other in the mix (150-300Hz), and the snare drum is getting buried.... when you CAN hear it, it sounds dead. :( Needs more high end snap, more "snare" sound. IMO fixing that snare sound would help this bunches.

...cool solo... Good singing w/harmonies after 3:00...

Nice song; good luck on a remix, man. Hopefully more ears will get to this.

jr#97-thanks. I'll post the Vegas mixes when they're done (If I can ever get them into Vegas-I'm having trouble retreiving my backed up Roland files-stay away from VS machines!!)

participant- I agree about the snare-we have this problem on all our early drum tracks. I re-recorded the snare track on the last song we did (see Lost Again post)

thanks all for listening

I'm moving tomorrow so I'm not set up to give this a proper "critical" listen. Some nice vocals dude. I like the voice...

My monitors are kind of in a strange position, but it sounds like stuff is dropping out left and right. The guitar loses fullness, and sounds like it ought be brought up about 3db throughout as well. There are some timing issues as well it sounded like.

Is it possible for you to double track that guitar?

This is a well written song, and well performed for the most part, other than the drums seemed to lose it a bit here and there.

Take all this with a grain of salt, I got a speaker on the floor and one on my desk!

Very good song.

EDIT: Oh ya, I listened to Unfound.

I think this happened when we converted to mp3-the original wave file is not like that

Our drummer has definitely 'lost it'-he'll be the first to tell you:D

Thanks for listening
