Screen resolution

Hi all-

Does increasing the screen resolution (i.e. going from 1024 X768 up to 1280 X 1024) impact performance on a DAW? I just got a new flat panel monitor and wasn't sure if I should increase the screen area or not.

That will not affect the performance of the computer, no, But the higher resolution can increase *your* performance. ;) The extra video "real estate" can come in handy both for extra editing windows and for decreasing the amount of zooming an and out you have to do on the timeline.

if you have a dedicated video card, this should not be a problem.

I've been doing all my computer work (audio, video and 2D designing) in 1280 X 1024. Didn't show the system down, did speed me up.
 
yeah uh although in theory if you had a really crappy computer this could affect it, on most computers these days, you have nothing to worry about. I personally have 2 flat panel monitors, and use a screen resolution of

2560 x 1024

cant live without it now.

there is so much more room using a DAW is actually comfortable to do with a lot of tracks, with lyrics open, or even the mixer and the 16 tracks on the screen at the same time. it is really the only way to go.

check out tweakxp.com to tweak your graphics and various other parts of your system if you don't plan on having a graphics heavy gaming computer and just want to use it for audio... plus it just speeds up your system in general... be careful with some of the tweaks though, you can seriously jack yourself up
