SB Live Value and SPDIF?

I own A SB Live Value card and am thinking about getting a J-Station. If I understand things correctly (Im fairly new to this game) the J-Station has a better sampling rate than my SB. The J-station also has a SPDIF out which allows me to bypass the SB A/D converters if there is a SPDIF in somewhere. OK - I know that there is not one on the external part of the SB but I think there is one inside the computer on the card. 1. Is this correct and 2. Is there a way for a cheapskate like me to connect a J-Station to this without having to buy more than some cables and do some splicing? I hope that made sense....thanx

The SB Live value does not have SPDIF - I own one as well.
 
Actually it does have SPDIF. It doesn't have any usable connectors, but it does have a SPDIF header on the card for digital i/o. I don't think it will be of much use though, IIRC it's something like 12-bit.
 
Is there a way to go straight into the USB from the SPDIF out on the J-Station?
 
What I am trying to accomplish is this: Since the J-Station has a better sampling rate, I want to bypass my soundcard. I dont know if this is possible or necessary though...
 
All the SB cards are the same AFAIK but the Platinum came with the Live Drive external jack box that had the SPDIF port that took advantage of that little jumper in the card. I dont think you can buy the live drive seperately. That is my understanding.

Using USB would require an external sound card and for the money you might as well get a PCI card.

So I think your screwed unless you get another card, sorry.
 
search for "LIVE CENTER" or WWW.LISTEN.TO.COM and you will find an explanation on how to set that s/pdif working..the s/pdif is there inside the card,theres a guy there explaning how he conected it...
 
When I earlier referred to 12-bit, I was thinking of some glaring shortcoming of the SB Live's SPDIF, and today I found it. The SB Live has on-board DSP, and the SPDIF i/o goes through the DSP, introducing a substantial amount of noise, regardless of whether or not the DSP is actually doing anything.

and last time I checked on this there is a S/PDIF plug on the side on my value card...I think that's what I thought at the time...but this here is rustled from the soundblaster web site which might be worth chasin' down. Note the bits at the end which say like check for a 2x20 pin connector on your existing Value card....can't see mine right now....cover's on...

Note: If you have a Sound Blaster Live! Value card, check your card to see whether it has an AUD_ EXT (2x20 pin header) connector or a SPDIF_ EXT (2x6 pin header) connector.

I had the optional daughterboard and its like $60 and I couldn't change the sampling rate on the S/PDIF input from 48k so I was screwed as the J-Station is 44k.

I wouldn't spend another dime on a Soundblaster if I was you.Use the analog input for now and save that $60 toward a new card.I bought the Audiophile 24/96 a while back and I couldn't be happier.My Live MP3 card and the daughterboard are sitting in a box unused,a total waste of $140(which is almost enough for the Audiophile!).Don't throw good money after bad.

its very easy,..go yahoo or other and type "LIVE CENTER",do the search,end you´re there..its kind of a bbs for live users,...

Can this audiophile24/96 card work good with games as well as all the recording stuff .? Will it replace the soundblaster completely?
 
No, it has no MIDI synth and has no connector for the analog stereo cable from a typical CD-ROM drive.
 
Is than any sound cards avalible that can play cd's, games , as well as have spdif inputs for digital recording??????Thanks,mark
 
You dont have to get rid of the soundblaster. You can run them along side a pro card usually. You just can't always use both of them at the same time.
 
The SBLive! is fine for digital recording through the S/PDIF. I disagree about it being noisy. 48khz sampling rate was never a prob for me either. I set my software to record at 44khz & all came out fine. You can record through the internal digital in, but I wouldn't recommend it. The digital daughterboard should be pretty cheap by now. Forget about the Live Drive stuff. Isn't worth the $.

[REM] However, if you're complaining about buying cables - perhaps you should reconsider getting into this money pit. :D :D :D
