and last time I checked on this there is a S/PDIF plug on the side on my value card...I think that's what I thought at the time...but this here is rustled from the soundblaster web site which might be worth chasin' down. Note the bits at the end which say like check for a 2x20 pin connector on your existing Value card....can't see mine right now....cover's on...

Introduction
The Optical Digital I/O 2 card is an upgrade for the Sound Blaster Live! series. The card provides digital connectors found in professional audio systems and the popular MiniDisc. Now you can experience the most powerful sound card with a full array of digital connectors specifically designed to deliver the full potential of EAX. The Optical Digital I/O 2 coupled with a Sound Blaster Live! will deliver pure digital audio output in both conventional RCA and optical formats thus retaining the high quality needed for the high end audiophiles, DAT users and the MiniDisc community.
Solving the problem of device connectivity, this daughter board, offers a complete digital input and output solution to Sound Blaster Live! users who would like to have both coaxial and optical S/PDIF connection to professional audio equipment and MiniDisc. It consists of 5 connectors: Line-In 2, Digital DIN, MIDI In DIN, MIDI Out DIN and Digital I/O.
An additional breakout bracket is provided and easily connects to the Digital I/O connector on the daughter board to provide: Coaxial S/PDIF In, Coaxial S/PDIF Out, Optical S/PDIF In and Optical S/PDIF Out.
The Digital Input / Output Module (DIO) is a S/PDIF adapter developed by Creative for an enriching multimedia experience in the digital domain with the new SB Live! family of audio products.
Here is what you need:
A Sound Blaster Live! series sound card or Sound Blaster Live! Value card
An available bracket (for rear connection to your computer - this solution does not take up a PCI or ISA slot but does occupy the bracket space)
This product can be used in conjunction with: CT4670 (SB Live! Value), CT4620 (SB Live!), CT4760 (SB Live! X-Gamer, SB Live! MP3+, and SB Live! Platnium)
Note: If you have a Sound Blaster Live! Value card, check your card to see whether it has an AUD_ EXT (2x20 pin header) connector or a SPDIF_ EXT (2x6 pin header) connector.
