Thought this may be a good topic as quite a few people use them, and some have trouble getting started. A lot of folks trash the Live!, but I've had nothing but positive results. :)

I agree with you both....the Live! is a fine card for the price and I've managed to
record some pretty impressive projects with it. I do wish the manual was better.
I write manuals on music equipment for a living and these guys really dropped
the ball on their tech writing. This kinda manual may be cool for computer buffs but
musicians want more/need more detail. What info they did have was layed
out pretty poorly. I did have one question about using the card with another
SoundBlaster card and their tech support wasn't very good either. The guy basically
told me to get rid of my other sound card. I'm now using both just fine, no thanks
to them. Still, it's a great card and I'm learning more about it as I go. If asked, I
would recommend it to anyone as long as they had some knowledge of
sound cards and music related software.

Yup
I own a SBLive! Value. It is great for the price. If you're on a low budget, this is the card to buy.

What is SBlive worth $ or AUS$?
How many I/O does it have?
does it have midi?
Every one here seems to be very happy with it i should try it out.

The Live! has the standard Line Input and Mic Input. In addition, it has a second
digital I/O board with MIDI In and Out as well as SPDIF In and Out.
As for price, I bought my card for $136 from buy.com on the web.
That's US dollars. The normal retail for it was $199. It comes with some
excellent software too. (Damn, I wish they hadn't put that game in there....I'm
not getting anything done on my music) It's a pretty quiet board. Blows the
old Blaster cards away. Yep, for the money you can't go wrong. Oh, one other thing.
If you like MIDI you'll like the Live! It has Soundfonts that allow you to change your
MIDI sounds to make the instruments sound better. Make sure you buy the Live! and
not the Live! Value. Go to www.sblive.com for more info.

Hi all,
Creative is about to release the latest upgrades for the Sblive! The website already lists it as "released" but it is not available on the site {http://www.sblive.com} as of yet for some reason. Just wanted to let you know.

My heartache was IRQ issues with my motherboard. I was getting total lockups with a FIC 503 motherboard. I then got crackle and pop on my .wav's until I turned off UDMA support.

I guess I'd still buy a soundcard, but might look at something a bit more recording based as opposed to 3D sound playback

Oh yeah, this was a Live. Value. Couldn't afford the Live

Has anyone used the SPDIF connections on the SB live? I can't seem to get any sound to transmit. Is there anything special that I need to do? I am using a digital mixer as my source and I want to record onto my computer. I have setup the mixer's output correctly. I am using Sound Forge to record. Help!!

Has any of you used the SB live with the daughter board? Supposed to have digital I/O

Yeah guys, I use the digital i/o - it rocks!

amit: first make sure that the digital input is selected as the recording device AND enabled in the SBLive! mixer. If that doesn't work, you'll need to get new drivers from the SBLive! website - the first set of drivers had a bug that kept the digital i/o from working properly.
