Sax solo

DigitalSmigital

A slice of analog pie?
Recorded on a 424 mkIII Portastudio 4 track.

My first recording a live horn; need advice on eq, mic placement, effects on the sax. Still in production.

Sorry about the mp3 edit between the e-piano and sax, the two are actually are in different ends of the song.

DigitalSmigital,

Nice mellow piece you have there!

And impressive sound quality for the cassette format too.

The mix sounds nice and smooth if not a little hard in the 2khz range overall but not really a fault as much as personal preference I suppose.

The chord progressions and tempo remind me a little bit of Pink Floyd but with different instrumentation. Very nice! :)

The fade was a bit abrupt. Was there a reason for this?

Overall, an enjoyable piece to help mellow me out after a hard day's work of screaming into my vocal mic to get the point across.
:D

Cheers! :)

Yes, the fade out is temporary, as the vocal tracks have yet to be recorded. Didn't want to pimp the chorus just yet...

Thanks, yeah, it started as a bluesey progression that morphed into this jazz/rock tune. It cried out for a saxophone solo, so I got a buddy over with his alto sax, but I'd never recorded a horn before, so I wanted some input on how to do it right.
