I'm not sure why it would be so different from any other high-quality recording s/w such as Cubase/Nuendo/Protools/etc... it's the front-end (ie, the A/D converters and what's going on before the converters that really matters - once the signal is digitized, there's no room for quasi-mystical hype since it's mathematics being applied to digital data!)

Aw, come on Bruce, so would you say that the summing, as well as the built in channel EQ's and Dynamics on the Behringer DDX3216 digital mixer are on par with those in your Sony console? (after all, it's just mathematics being applied to digital data, right?) ;) LOL!

I've been using SAWStudio (full version) for about a year and a half now and have NO regrets whatsoever about the money spent, it's about as close to using a "real" hardware recorder/mixer/effects setup as I've ever seen in software, the way SAW works certainly "clicked" with me. One of the main things for me is SAW's stability when overdubbing at extremely low latency, using input monitoring with real-time effects, while also playing back a full on 20 plus track mix with EQ's, Dynamics, and effects. (on an H/P laptop, using the slow, "stock" internal HD).

There are demo's available for all versions, I would suggest that if you're seriously considering SAW that you try it, you'll need to learn some keystrokes for editing and manipulation of audio regions, there are online tutorials at the website, there's also a forum.

The support that Bob Lentini gives is the absolute BEST I have ever encountered, in the year and a half since I've moved to SAWStudio he has updated the program at least TWENTY TIMES, for FREE, when he can duplicate a bug, he's ON IT!, every now and then he charges about 100 dollars for a major update, but there have been quite a few new features added to the program in the 20 updates I've gotten, some of them fairly major, seriously, this support is like nothing else!

No _ I'm not really saying that at all... I said HIGH-QUALITY S/W.... I don't believe manufacturers of budget gear have ever spent any time properly designing their gear.... cheap gear uses cheap components and budget designs (out of economic necessity, otherwise they make the products as cheaply as they charge).... high-end gear & S/W pay attention to design and internal architecture. You can always reverse-engineer cost to get an idea of the relative effort a manufacturer placed in their product... ie, once you strip away a certain amount of profit, and name-brand value, you're left with what it took a company to manufacture a product -- so is $1500 s/w comparable to a $20K console? No... is a $2000 Behringer console comparable in any way to a $20K console? Again, no... Is $100 s/w comparable to $1500 s/w? Again, not likely, since clearly more R&D dollars were spent on design/archtecture in the higher-priced s/w..........

Once you strip away profit, name-brand, and product "mystic" from product costs, you will often find you get what you pay for...

I will be looking into Saw allright..., I just wish I had been aware of them before I invested into an Apple G5 system..., Oh well..
