Hi!

I've been recording the "hard way" for a quite a while now and finally feel like it is time to give myself some slack.
Up until now, I have been saving my vocal tracks and then manually matching the timing with my instrumental tracks.
Firstly, I use Cool Edit Pro (not knowledgeable enough to use anything better yet :( ).
When I record my vocals, it looks like this:

When I save the vocals(track 2), it does not match up with the instrumental track when I open it up again.

How can I save it so that it will match up with the instrumental track?
or...how do I fill in that space(circled in red) when I save?!

I do not want to mixdown the track:( I would like to save it individually.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I don't know the software but it would seem you could mute other tracks and export mix. Then import mix back in that would start from the beginning.

That's an interesting issue that you are running into. I used to use CEP for a long time before upgrading to Adobe Audition. I have never run into an issue such as that one. When you save your session or tracks, it should not shift in the multi-track. I am not sure if its a timing issue with a slower computer that could be causing bottle necks and latency, something with CEP, or what exactly. When you play back the audio, do you hear a deffinative off-timing of the vocals from the rest of the mix?

Would you be able to provide us some more information on your setup? What are the specs of your computer? What interface are you using? Does the shift happen just after saving, or must you first exit the DAW and reopen to see and hear the shift?

Hope we can help you out man and welcome to the forum!

Thanks for the quick response!!!
I don't know if it was my computer or the software, but when I would mixdown the instrumental track and the vocal tracks together, it used to totally mess up the sound quality, so I hadn't even thought of that.
Now that I tried it and it's been a while, it seems to work out ok!

Thank you for the quick response and for the welcome!
I have actually been lingering on the forum for a while now, but still have little knowledge about recording due to lack of time to actually study my facts :(!

I don't think it was an actual shift in the track...it didn't shift in the multi-track :o!
The problem was that I saved the track and when I re-opened it to another session, it started at 0:00 because I didn't do anything about the red space in the image above (I hope that makes sense!)

Frankly, a Cool edit session should remember where individual sections of a track were when you reload the session. It just occurs to me that you mention saving tracks, not a session. In multitrack, have you clicked on File/Save Session As then given your work a name?

Beyond that, to stop accidental moves, there's a feature to lock individual clips in place in a multitrack session--this stops you accidentally grabbing them and slipping them in time. I've moved onto Audition 3.0 so can't remember which menu that option was on in CEP, but a quick hunt in the files should find it for you.
