Anyway, here's a instrumental (for now) hip-hop esque track I'm working on. give her a listen and give me a few pointers on the mix.

I don't deal in urine & stale wine. Though they often seem to inhabit the same olfactory spaces around grungy doorsteps.
the section with the greensleeves keyboard seems a little full.
I'd say too many little ideas piled up against each other for comfort.
The gear change is interesting to begin with but doesn't go anywhere.
As a mix, this is pretty full & spacious but - with the possibility of it becoming more than an instrumental - is too full of little things.
As an instrumental theres isn't anything carrying across the entire piece except the snare that will carry interest.
The only hip hopness I can hear is the bass drum & snare & that was, long ago, co-opted from HH by pop et al.
With a view to adding a top line you need to pare this mix back - find the essential elements that carry the piece - instrumental or rhythmic hooks that actullay hook.
I hope you didn't put anything across the stereo bus!

Common baby you make it hurt so good.

This is what I came here for.

Than you ma'am may I have another!

Haha, thanks rayc

wow, thats great music for an office christmas party!
maybe even for the nursery!
Were you seriously trying to put your audience to sleep?
This thing is so week and edgeless that I would not insult hip hop to associate it with it (and I dont like HH)

yes, the mix sounds nice and full, but again, were you trying to put me to sleep?

The whole bell sound synth is just screaming "merry christmas!" I am still waiting for the elves to pop out.

Sorry I could not be more brutal, hopefully someone else will tear your guts out for you.

I made it to about the 35 second mark.

Comments on the mix. Sounded okay, no changes needed.

There isnt much to piss on, this is the "safest" track I've ever heard. No vocal, no lyrics, no quirky composition, no real instruments, no creative engineering, Its so benign and mundane. Try taking a risk musically, not just on your posting title.

"Don't get short with me Mr. Frodo."

This could only be Hip-Hop in the Shire.

The mix is very good, well balanced and each track hold's its place well. I could see this working with a unique voiced rapper, someone with a raspy/dirty voice to off-set the delicate nature of the beat. Like Ja-Rule or DMX, maybe Busta.

Good job on the mix, a little boring without vox.

The mix sounds pretty good. No problems with separation or clarity. I'd think the main synth(s) could come down a bit to make more room in the middle for whatever other elements are to be added (vocals?).

Aesthetically, there isn't much here to hold one's interest - generic in a way that reminds one of a preset tune loaded onto some recording software or multitracker just to reassure the purchaser that you can in fact produce sounds with their product.

Well suited for a dentist's office perhaps. Not so much for its soothing or muzak-like quality, but more because patients, upon hearing this, would likely long for the sound of the drill boring into their teeth in order to drown this out.

Yeah, upon current and past reflections I thought that the vibes, yes they are called vibraphones; were a little lack luster. I recognize that it remains as it is pretty de-fanged but i'm waiting for vocals to see what space i'm left to fill.

It is a true disservice to your fellow forum men that you spare them the quality and bluntness of the critiques you have offered me here.

Mix wise its all good...nice kick sample especially

Im just not sure of some of the patch choices...I liked the bass and vibraphone but the synths were much weaker..there's one playing a down scale that wouldnt sound out of place on one of these TV channels that show fire logs burning 24/7

I like the arrangement but definitely not the lead synth patches..just too cheesy imho

yeah that patch is a mellotron flute. i use it during the bridge before the last chorus. I planon putting some guitbox in so that may end up replaced.

Dude, give it a rest. Why are you so angry? You're brand new here. Get tougher skin, or better yet, contribute something worthwhile to the site instead of getting pissed when people get better reviews than you do. You obviously so desperately want to be a part of the "atta boy" club, so earn your way in.

Dont worry about what other people are doing, whether they master or not, what they say etc etc. I have no benefit in breakin your balls. My comment was harsh, because "you" asked for that. Your mix sounds good, so go for it, post your best work and you'll get honest feedback. I've found it to be quite helpful. and Welcome to HR.
