Assuming you are serious, I have to say that I cannot understand why you would even question whether or not to leave. If your gear is important to you then load 'n' go. If your gear isn't important to you, then for your own life leave. Fire spreads fast. Embers can shoot for miles... especially 5 of them... easily.

There were a few people who died for not taking things as serious as they should have. Cooked inside of their cars in their fricking driveways. The fire was burning as much as 6000 acres an hour, moving at roughly 40 miles per hour linearly. Its best to get what you can and get out with a decent margin of safety.

I feel bad for folks having to deal with this horrible disaster...

The house we all grew up in is a goner, thanks to these blasted fires. We had time to get Mom, Dad, siblings and animals..but the rest of it is toast.

Fortunately, I don't live at home..and all my gear is okay. But here's what the fire did to OUR house. The "get the hell out" advice is spot on.
