Has anyone bought one and tried it? $69 from Sam Ash. This made-in-China mic has a smaller-than-1" diaphragm and a different case and grille than most.
I don't have one of those, but I have one of these http://www.8thstreet.com/product.asp?ProductCode=1542&Category=Microphones
(actually two - one to modify) and it has a sound like the Behringer B1 - some emphasis on the higher frequencies. For the price, as an entry lever LDC, it's a good bang for the buck ($50). It has a 1" diaphragm, and a bass roll off switch (internal) that's not mentioned in the specs.
At $50 it looks like a good buy. Looks a lot like the Nady SCM900 that I have, but if you say that it has a high frequency emphasis, it's probably tonally opposite from the Nady. The Samson has a different case and diaphragm but is probably similar electronically.
