I've just ordered a couple of SA C01's along with other things (behringer mixer + headphone monitors etc.)
Well alot of people have said that they are in other words crap, i'm not one to bash cheap gear, as its all i can afford (student, just finished collage 2 days ago).
I bought them mainly for use on a kit, as overheads/snare/hi-hat mics, but they may get used as vocal mics and/or amp mics.
Can anyone give me an un-bias opinion on them?

EDIT---forgot to mention the price, £35.99 (65USD) at www.turnkey.co.uk

well it all depends on what standard of recording your looking for - sure - there not the best! - but i still belive you can put togeather some 'o.k' recordings with them if you know what your doing, or take the time to learn.

I used to use very similar setup - and i have made recordings people still like to listen too on. Its by far not my prodest work, and the vocals are exceptionly harsh with that mic, but im sure you can borrow somthing to get round that.

Id say to enjoy using them untill it hurts to be using them, and you feel there whats letting you down, then upgrade.

cheers for that, yea there gonna be used for my bands demo stuff.

these tracks where recorded with my m-audio quattro usb, garageband2.0 and a £5 video camera mic. so anything should sound better than that.
I have managed to "borrow" an AKG C1000S from collage, as it needed repairing, so that will probably be used for most of the vocals. eventually I want to get a Blue Ball mic, as they look so good, but i've not looked into the tech specs yet.

It's the only mic I hated and couldn't find a use for.

As always YMMV.

I have two and I really like them, I think they are a great deal. I got two when I started putting together my studio about two years ago. Got them to do some school projects where mostly rode nt5's were being used by other people and I thought they compared favorably. Not the greatest mic on earth, but actually has a pretty flat response and can be used for a surprising number of things.

used on vocals

used on overheads

used on kick and hi hats (short selection)

They ain't the greatest examples, but I guess you may be interested.

C01 = Bad

C03 = Not terrible, and worth the extra money

My singer loves the CO3 (we don't have a co1) -- i have tried it on overheads but haven't had much success. great for room mic too.

The C01 was my first mic. I was younger and easily influenced by magazine reviews - ever notice how they're always positive?$?$ It was usable on voice and sax, but I quickly out grew it. I found it had a big ugly peak in the Hi Mids that I could never EQ out - the "China Character" I suppose. I eventually replaced it with a AT4040 and then traded that for a NTK. I think you'll be able to happily use it for a while, but if you're like me, the upgrade bug will bite sooner or later. Good luck

I owned a pair of CO1's. They are usable, but noisy. A lot of background hiss. I switched to a pair of Studio Projects B1's. MUCH better in all ways.
