The peak limiter is about the most functional and transparent one I can think of for that kind of money. And I could probably say the same for the compression, even at extreme settings.

You'd actually have to try and put forth effort to get it to sound bad. I think it's ideal for the recording musician who doesn't want to have to think so hard about the production and engineering end of things, and would rather focus on the performance. Or for someone doing location work where you only get one crack at capturing the sound source.

The mic pre section, by the way, is clear / transparent and detailed.

track pusha,
I have the safesound p1and am very happy with it.
Here are some songs recorded with it. It has really helped my tracks a lot.

bass, vocals, guitar recorde through safesound.

I recently picked up another one to have 2 channels because I was running drum machines through a dbx mini compressor, and wanted to upgrade. Since I liked the safesound so much it made sense to pick up another one.

Nice,I like the music. What other equipment did you use.

Hi,
Thanks... glad you listened, and liked it.
Which song did you listen to. So I'll tell you more specific.
But mostly:

Bass
'79 P bass through sadowsky preamp-->safesound p1-->fostex vf16.

Guitar
Alembic skylark, fulltone fulldrive 2, radial JDI, blues jr. amp.

vocals: through safesound
mics: adk hamburg, SP b1.

Drums: we have no drummer, so I use different drum machines, but on these songs I used an electribe es-1 which has sampled wav. drum sounds for each individual hit snare, kick...etc. I ran the drum machine through a dbx mini compressor, but now I will run drum machines through the 2 safesounds instead of the dbx.

keyboards/modules : different ones/emu xl-7, electribes, groovebox etc. depends on which song.
I have info. on this part of our website:

Anybody else use the safesound

Ps. EVT I listend to all of them

Hi again,
Warren from Front End Audio has been very helpful in answering any questions I've had about the safesound. He posts here as Warhead.

Overall I really think the Safesound has helped my recordings big time.

The safesound is pretty well liked here. If you post more specific questions about it or what you want to know about it I will try to answer, or someone else will I'm sure.

I am mixing another song right now which I used the safesound on too. I can post it if you'd like once I'm finished.

Just popping in to say I also dig the Safesound P1. The expander and the limiter are my favorite parts of it. The preamp section itself is nice, pretty neutral, but I have been using my Brick more recently for a lot of overdub tracks; running the line into the P1 for the expander/comp/limiter feature. I also use it as a headphone amp which is nice.
I got my P1 back when it was like $499 or something; I think the price has gone back up now maybe.

So are you saying use the brick as your preamp and the p1 for the compressor limiter and expander?

Yup sometimes for overdubs. Mic into Brick, line out into line input of P1, use of compressor, low cut, expander, limiter, headphone out; none of which the Brick has.

They are both great units. When I track drums, I usually use P1 on kick and Brick on snare.

I'd imagine you could even out the levels of the kick with that thing really well, and without a lot of artifacts.

I normally use an Aphex compellor for that -- another really smooth and transparent comp for that sort of thing. But I can see where the Safesound, by itself, would give you a lot of the benefits you'd normally get from something like the Aphex compellor and Dominator kinda' rolled in to one. Or imagine an RNC (with an expander / leveler feature) going to an L-2.

It's pretty astounding when you think how much a single channel of nice preamp> to compellor > to dominator (or L2) would run you, otherwise. You get a lot in that little package.

Well, I wouldn't really call it special, but yeah it is a Monster Studiolink XLR to TRS cable.
I'm not sure how much you can get from this, but I posted up a quick clip on my band's website of a song I am working on until I get the real thing finished:

I may have actually used Brick on kick and P1 on snare on this particular track; it is all getting jumbled in my head  . I believe most of the guitars, vocals, and bass are Brick into P1 like I was saying earlier. The other songs on our website are junk I did back in school with a Presonus Digimax and a mackie board, so they don't count :D ; although we did have some top notch mics at our disposal....
