Hello everybody,
I am looking for info on the Russian made OKtava Mics. I've heard lots of good things about them in the European press and Australia, but I have not found a US distributor for them so far.
Thanks in advance for your help.

So.

HI SO, I JUST GOT A NEW CATOLOG FROM GUITAR CENTER,THE OKTAVA MK319 WITH OUT THE SHOCK MOUNT IS 199.99 AND THE MK012 IS 149.99 TILL 12/24. HAVE YOU EVER HEARD/USED THESE AND IF SO, WHATS YOUR OPINION? THEY HAVE 67 LOCATIONS NATIONWIDE, LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM FINDING ONE

Thanks for the info. I will definetely this place (there's one in Queen's, I believe).
I have not heard the mics. All has been hearsay (no pun intended) from bits and pieces I've read (Future Music Mag, I think). I found a place with info check WWW.OKtava.com there full tech specs, photos, list prices, etc. The 012, in particular is a small diagram condenser with three elements: omni, cardioid and Hyp/cardioid.

I think the prices are good, though last night I found an old post from a guy from Australia who bought a matched pair for 40US each overthere-sounds strange, ha?

Then again, I was at B&H the other day and they have the Audio Technica 3525 for $179.00 . BUT I want to hear the OKtavas before anything else. Thanks for the tip!

Beware!!!

Don't ever buy an Oktava at Guitar Center! The only bad reviews Oktavas get are those purchased from Guitar Center! Oktavas have very bad quality control. Guitar Center get shipments which are are all the left-overs after all the bulk-buying retailers pick and choose those of good quality. The only place I'd ever buy an Oktava is through The Sound Room. Their web-site is www.oktava.com

Check them out. You won't regret it! Even better, call and talk to Taylor Johnson about it all. He'll give you the "real scoop" on Oktava!

GUITAR CENTER IS ALSO SELLING AKG C3000 FOR 199.00 TILL 12/24 WHILE SUPPLIES LAST, DO YOU THINK THESE MIGHT BE 2ND'S? THATS INCREDIBLY CHEAP.

You know, I doubt it. AKG's qulity control has always been high up there. I think they're probably since the C1000s and now the D112 is at the $200 price. Although, personaly, I'd prefer an Oktava MC319 for $279 (only from The Sound Room of course) over an AKG C3000 or that Marshall (if going to be used for more than miking electric guitar cabs).

Buy the Oktava, but NOT from Guitar Center.
I bought mine from Taylor Johnson at the Sound Room...Taylor puts his Mics through a 4 point inspection, Oktava ships them out after only a "red-light, green light" inspection..Taylor gives you a 2 YEAR warranty on mics he sells, Guitar Center only 90 days...The Customer Service from The Sound Room is awesome, the Customer Service from guitar Center is non-existant..One big Musicians Cattle call over there.
This Oktava I have is amazing...A signal so hot You can hear your neighbor urinating from 3 doors away (A slight exaggeration there...) But everyone who knows this Mic knows what I am talking about, and everyone who knows about Taylor Johnson & The Sound Factory knows his commitment to perfection!

Man, I've been trying to tell everyone here that Oktava and The Sound Room is the way to go if you're on a budget; and when you're not for certain applications.
