Running solid state amp w/ no load

I'm wondering if it is safe to run a solid state amp with no load for recording purposes. ie I'd like to just take the xlr line out from my GK RB800 into the board without plugging in the speakers, but I'm wondering if this can damage the amp.
 
no problemo... only an issue for tubes...

Yes, this is fine, ok for solid state, not so much for tube amps.

i do this with my GK RCB 200 as well.

OK thanks guys. How about this scenario: Marshall JCM 800 speaker jack plugged into H&K Red box, but no speakers plugged in. Does the red box supply a load to keep from damaging the amp?
 
i dont really know that DI but what little info i found seems to say that yes it can be hooked up to the output of a tube amp... but i'ld check it out alittle more before i tried it... hate to burn an output transformer needlessly...

I do this all the time with one of my amps at home. Make sure you don't send phantom power to it though. I'm pretty sure that wouldn't be good.
