I have researched building some absorbers with some OC703. I am going to place on 2x4 panel horizontal on the wall behind my when I am mixing. then do the same to the wall behind my monitor ( or I may do two seperate 2x2 squares for directly behind the monitors. ) then to my direct left and right of the mixing desk, I will have 1 2x4 panel mounted vertically.

Instead of the one panel behind the mixing desk, I was considering placing (2) 2x4 panels vertically on stands so that they can sit directly behind me and create a sort of barrier/divider in the room. I also thought that the extra space left behind them might also help with absorbing the lower frequencies.

Then I could also move them into an "L" shape so that I can place a mic in the center and sing into that corner when recording vocals.

Any advice on making a good deflecter? I was going to buy some auralex but want to examine my options for building something that would look pretty clean.

Also, any advice on placement of absorbers and deflectors would be appreciated. The room will be approximately 12x12

When I started treating mine,....I found a wealth if info at johnlsayers.com

there's a forum covering all aspects of studio desidn,...and dealing with standing waves/bass absorbtion/etc......

I ended up using Auralex 2" wedges in my 10x 10 control room,....and lenrd traps in the corners. I also made a Cloud suspended from the ceiling with oc703 and a cloth covering.

My understanding is that you need to kill the bass accumulation in the corners primarily,...and I'd put some absorbtion where the monitors are pointing,...I wouldnt be so concerned about behind the monitors.

I went with the Auralex foam,...because space is at a premium. The oc703 absobers will take up alot of room,...and your space is small like mine. The lenrd traps are proven effective,...and make better use of space imo.

good luck.

A square room is not a good shape, and you'll need as many bass traps as you can manage. That's also too small for diffusion. Focus on absorption only.
