Room ambience and cpu noise problems

Hi everybody,
i use a neumann M147 with a Trident s20 mic pre and i record into the Motu 896HD.
I`ve just made my studio in another room wich is a pretty empty(i don`t have a lot of furniture in there). Guess what? Sound terrible. The mic pick up every noise(outside, fan and hd noise), even though i putted my dual g5 in the closet!
But the worst thing is a nasty room reverb(because is empty, i guess!) that make sound my vocal "ive"and boxy.
I have 3 primay targets:
1-Get rid of room ambience.
2-Get rid of the computer, fan and outside noise
3-Get rid of that dull-boxy sound

What should i do?

I don`t have a lot of recording experience but i`ve read a lot of mag and i come up with some possible resolutions to my problems:

1-Should i put absorbion pannel everywere? This will help to "kill" the room reverb?
2-A carpet can also help?
3-Maybe if i work close to the mic(10 cm?) i`ll get rid of the room ambience?
4-A low cut filter could help to deal with the Hd and computer fan noise problem?
5-Should i record the vox with the pre`s gain very high or maybe i should keep the gain little lover to avoid to record unwanted sound?

I`m open to any suggestion/tip and tricks and/or feedback . Please someone help me.

Thanxx.

You should have thought about this before spending the thousands of $s on the Neumann/Trident/Motu. The sound of your room is one of the most important aspects of getting a good sound (next to the performer/instrument, imho) All the money you just spent will give you a VERY CLEAR representation of what your room sounds like, which you're finding out isn't very good.
Experience also goes a long way, sorry you had to find out the hard way that just throwing money at gear will not suddenly make your recordings sound professional.

How close are you to the mic normally? What pattern? Maybe put a blanket on the other side of the mic from you about 2-3 feet away...This might help "close" it in a little...
I'd keep kind of close, since you are having problems w/ ambient noise. This way you can turn down the gain a little bit and mabybe that will help a TINY bit. You might have to put some 703 panels in front of the closet door to help w/ computer noise if it's that bad...

Hope my half ass suggestions help

Silent CPU Fan: around 40 bucks
Silent Power Supply: around 50 bucks
HD shockmounts: around 15 bucks

That's around 100 bucks on upgrades to your PC, and I guarantee you, you will have at most, half the noise. If you don't have any other fans in your computer, your all done. I have all of these products and they are great. Only thing, my video card also has a fan, a noisy one. It's really the only I can still clearly hear.

That, and a shitload of absorbtion material in your room should do the trick.
