Yup... Or try to find a second hand JV1080, goes about the same price over here in Belgium.

All in one... Hehe. I just bought this module as a simple add-on to my A90. Love the sounds in the A90, but I wanted a tiny cheap thing that would give me all the sounds I could ever need. And so far, the JV1010 does a tremendous job! And the lighter too... ;)
 
However, I was wondering if, for non-computer use, the patches on the jv-1010 could be selected from the controller rather than via the controls on the front of the module itself.

I have the Fatar sl-161 and 1010 and have no problem switching btween patches. I photocopied the patch list(about 4 pages) and keep it nearby so I don't have to remember all the numbers, although, I memorized my favorites w/o trying.
 
Hey guys,

I didn´t read all the posts here, but I own the JV 1010 fro about one year, the only complain I hve,is that it doesn´t respond very soon on midi out of cubase or logic!

Strings for Pop-Music are OK, but as I have also a classical Violin Educationit´s different.
If you are in Pop/Rock as I am now, just use some basic strings and do some overdubs , like 4 to 8 that will sound great.

Hey, if you want to hear the JV-1010 in action, check out my mp3 site. All I use for my songs is one JV-1010 and a SB-Live! That's it!

I think it's an awesome little machine if you spend time learning to get the most out of it.

Couple of questions for you Peter:

1. Do you use any expansion boards in your 1010?

2. What sequencing software do you use?
 
I use the Orchestral I expansion board on the song 'Mystery of the Stars'. For the other song, all the instruments are stock, except for a few custom JV-1010 patches for the great piano sound that I d-loaded from the internet. The drums on the JV-1010 are good, but not that great, so I use soundfonts for the techno drum sets on the songs at my site.

I am planning on upgrading to a Korg Triton and 24 bit recording sound-card soon, but I wouldn't give up my JV-1010 for anything. It has some really great sounds, and tons of them to choose from, even when put side by side with the Triton. The Triton has much better drum samples, so that is my primary reason for adding that module.

I am soon planning on recording each of the JV instruments in my songs in Patch mode, which retains all the original effects for each patch, so the JV is even more capable then what is evident from my mp3 site.

If you want some samples of instruments, etc. let me know.

I also use SoundForge XP 4.0, Cakewalk Home Studio 9.0, and a Sb-Live! card for recording.

after the yamaha motif stations and rs7000 has come out there is absolutely no reason to buy a triton. The rs7000 and the motifs are way, way better and the motifs can even be expanded with AN and DN cards for analogue sound modeling or good ol' FM
 
I've tried out the motifs, and while they are good they can NEVER take out a triton. The RS7000 feels like a toy to me, it's just so pathetic after using an MPC3000 for so long. The only new workstation actually worth talking about would have to be the Roland Fantom. Now that could compete with a triton.

Don't get me wrong, the motifs have brilliant sounds, but Yamaha has yet to perfect their "workstations".
 
Maybe it's because i'm a trance&house guy and like the live tweaking so much... taste differs
 
low Output

Can anyone explain me why I think that the output of my JV1010 is so low. Even if I put the volume on it's maximum, it's still a lot quieter than for example a drumloop I programmed in fruityloops.

My JV1010 enter my computer via the aux2 on the soundblaster live platinum (the volume on my comp for the aux2 is also on it's maximimum). Maybe it has anything to do with that? Or is the output just not that loud?
 
Make sure you SB master volume is up as well as the AUX 2 volume. And when recording, turn REC volume up also. It is a bit quiet for me, but not bad. I even get clipping often if I crank volume like you say you do.
 
the jv1010 just has a low output basically, its renown for that characteristic
